I wasn't going to post this. And then he said he would arrest them. :x
So, over on [info]ohnotheydidnt, an article is posted that Folk singer/anti-war protester Joan Baez was banned from playing for US troops in hospital.

Enter [info]hemloc: As a vet, I can guaran-fucking-tee, NO VET wants to see Joan Baez or John Melonhead....

And then thread #2...

Other highlights:
Icon bashing/age-bashing, "hippy" bashing, joining-the-army-for-college-money bashing, and the assumption that a veteran who likes Joan Baez = drafted, apologies and bonding over Jhonen Vasquez, praising his own celebrity, and I've been fighting wars longer and so am better than today's soldiers!!!

And for the record, I do have National Enquirer, Life Magazine, Newsweek, AP pics and have been on god knows how many newsfeeds since I can remember, still to this day... I can't escape the cameras, grrr!!

I remember when I was little, and I used to get very confused about people joining the army to pay for college. "But, Mommy," I'd say, "what if they get killed before they get to college?"

Anyway, this wank was much funnier than I expected. That's what I like about ONTD: there are so many people that you get people who just poke for the hell of it. Yay, sohumdrum!

I was about to say that that's not that long ago, but then I remembered that the first time I saw Josh Ritter was over five years ago.

Still love that when she played a few songs for Radio 4 a while back she did wings and plugged him while she was at it. Not that he needs it over here, but still.

You know, I've never seen her or followed her career. But a particular guy who writes songs for her sometimes - him I've seen four times. Considering that he opened the last show I was at with "Waist-Deep in the Big Muddy", I'm not surprised that another of this crowd should be banned from playing to veterans. ;)

For a moment I wondered what on Earth a veterinarian would have against protest singer. And then it was about wars and veterans and the Virginia Tech thing, and since no fluffy animals were involved, I stopped caring.

You're not even qualified to comment here... Where were you in 1989 when I was standing in Manuel Noriega's office watching a city burn at the hands of nationalistas.. Well, if *I* was a vet, I know that wouldn't change my wanting to see Joan Baez. I'd probably ask her how she remembers the sequence of events in "Hard Rain's a-Gonna Fall", since I listened to that song for ages on end and could never remember what came when.

I had to post in the thread - I go to Virginia Tech, and it pisses me off to see people exploiting our grief for their political purposes.

So I wrote:

I'll tell you why no one fought back at Virginia Tech.

Because Virginia Tech is an extremely safe community and no one was expecting something like this.
