Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
If a tree falls in the forest, yadda yadda, can we still burn it?
Over on nonfluffypagans, fiat_knox posts about ... something. Somebody was fired for not showing up to work, two people were murdered in India, a murderous barber of the nonmusical variety, fiat_knox wants free money, white witches, and it all spells trouble. With a capital T, and that rhymes with P, and it stands for Persecution.

Predictably, the members think fiat_knox isn't very bright.

Also predictably, fiat_knox disagrees.

Somewhat unpredictably (unless you happen to be a member of nonfluffypagans), the mods aren't going to delete the kerfluffle. Instead, they let their feelings be known through the creative use of entry tags.

I've never understood why people feel the need to tell us where they've cross-posted things. If you belong to those communities, you'll see it. If you don't, then whothefuck cares?

I find crossposting announcements valuable, personally. They tell me which posts to avoid like the plague.

I've actually found a couple of interesting communities that I wasn't previously aware of because of it.

But most of the time, I tend to ignore it.

Me too. It helps greatly in my quest to be part of every community for every one of my fandoms. Certainly doesn't hurt anything.

I mention on my personal journal if I've xposted something to a community, and like when others do the same. Sometimes it's interesting to see how a completely different audience responded to the same thing, and I will follow an xposted thing to the community to read the replies there if the topic is interesting enough, and I know a couple of people on my flist joined Nonfluffypagans due to me xposting stuff from my journal to there. I don't mention on a comm that I've xposted to my personal journal, though, and don't get why people do-- I kinda think of it as a given that a lot of stuff will be. (And even less sense-making when people mention an xpost to a *flocked* journal, since you can't even follow it there and see what people say.)

I think some places expect you to do that as a matter of courtesy, and so some people take it as a point of courtesy to do so everywhere.

Why, fuck only knows, but that's the explanation I got?
