Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
If a tree falls in the forest, yadda yadda, can we still burn it?
Over on nonfluffypagans, fiat_knox posts about ... something. Somebody was fired for not showing up to work, two people were murdered in India, a murderous barber of the nonmusical variety, fiat_knox wants free money, white witches, and it all spells trouble. With a capital T, and that rhymes with P, and it stands for Persecution.

Predictably, the members think fiat_knox isn't very bright.

Also predictably, fiat_knox disagrees.

Somewhat unpredictably (unless you happen to be a member of nonfluffypagans), the mods aren't going to delete the kerfluffle. Instead, they let their feelings be known through the creative use of entry tags.

Also, in NFP's info they mention "$ilver Rabidwolf".

Who? Real name, or parody?

I think it means they view them as money-grubbing.

Not a pagan, but I'm given to understand that "Silver Ravenwolf" is an author of apparently very fluffy books about witchcraft and such. The general reason I've seen for putting $ in a name is so they can't google themselves, but I don't know if it applies here. Can't imagine it'd apply for the $Christians thing, unless they're using it as a Perl variable...

I think the reason where Ravenwolf is concerned is that a lot of people think she's only in it for the money. Her books do sell quite well, though I have no idea why; they're frankly crap.

I have no idea what $Christian is supposed to mean, though.

Is that somewhere in there? Because I can't find it, otherwise I'd take a shot.

Usually you get things like $DEITY and the like, but that's using the coding meaning of $ to basically mean 'Any given [x]'.

(Possibly the only group in the universe more full of geeks than Paganism is, well, fandom.)

I thought I saw it, I may have been conflating it with something else I saw ($God, or something.)

Yeah, if it was something like $God, it was probably like 'Any given god'/'Some value which can fit the description "god"'. Community full of polytheists, can never assume that who you mean when you say 'god' is the same as the person you're talking to, and also people who love to argue. Heh.

As one of the people who uses the $...

Smarriveurr, specifically... I use $x to denote "any given" in the variable sense mentioned elsewhere. $Christian is basically a member of the set {Catholic, Lutheran, Southern Baptist, Jehovah's Witness, Presbyterian...}. It's a computer geek thing, I often forget it doesn't translate. I use it mainly to remind people that when you say "Christian" you're actually referring to dozens of schismatic sects that do not agree with each other on every issue, not a monolithic entity.
