In the Words of Alice Cooper - "I love my guns, hot dog and mustard...I love America"
Yay webcomic wank!

So!
Matt Boyd of MacHall and Three Panel Soul wanted to buy a gun. He mentioned it to a co-worker, the day after the Virginia Tech shootings. Another co-worker overheard and reported him, feeling 'unsafe'. Matt was promptly fired.

So, he made a strip detailing this wacky experiance here, here and here.

And then the cops came! Apparently the girl in the second strip looked like a co-worker and the whole comic was considered "Borderline Terroristic." (I swear.)

Since then, this whole thing has made it's rounds amongst the Web Comic communities, and of course, wank will follow.

Like here</> for example.

EDIT: Here's an
interview with Matt himself.
And "Terroristic" is indeed a word. See?

Yeah, I can't imagine why someone wouldn't be freaked out by some creepy internet guy talking about how many bullets he needs/wants to kill someone.

In fact, that sort of talk comforts me.

He didn't. He was talking about how many it would take. Not actually assaulting someone, just the merits and disadvantages of a given gun.

And he wasn't some 'creepy Internet guy', he's a Southern dude with a goatee in the next cubicle.

Scott Adams once got flamed for doing a strip that involved nuns dying. It happened to be the same week Mother Teresa died.

Even that made more sense than this.

Also; how could Ian deliberately draw the strip to resemble a woman he's never seen before? He lives on the other side of the frakkin' country!

I remember seeing that in Seven Years of Highly Defective People. Apparently, he'd done the strips months in advance, and the timing was just really sucky. He also got flamed for one involving Jesus healing a football.

The thing I don't get is the woman in the second strip looking like a coworker, since Matt doesn't draw the strip himself. I suppose he could have given Ian a description, but even so it still doesn't quite make sense.

I understand people getting freaked by that sort of (even though in the first strip he's talking about getting a gun that would make it difficult to kill someone on accident) but firing plus a visit from the feds for joking about the experience? It would be nice to not live in a country that is apparently full of rabbits after every tragedy.

There's some more info about what happened here, including a link to an interview with Matt.

Supposedly this kind of stuff makes people safe. Not like, you know, the feds are going to knock down your door and assault you the moment you make an off-color joke.

I was warned by a teacher for saying something about feeling not-so-good/antisocial one day. :/ (More as a kind of, "Shhh, someone might think you're going to make us the next BVT" than a "Shhh, or I'll have you sent to therapy" kind of thing, but still. He was serious.)

I'm still lost which part of the comic was considered a "terroristic threat" (Incidently, I keep reading "terroristic" as "terror-tastic!" which would be a much more fabulous term for .. whatever that crime is)

Am I the only one boggling at why someone would fire a person who was planning on buying a gun? What part of "disgruntled employee/ex-employee goes on a shooting spree" did these people miss?

Not to say the guy in question would do something like this, it's just that I don't think I'd feel safer about where I worked if the guy I got fired was planning on buying a gun. O_o

On one, hand. . .but on the other hand, who thinks it's a good idea to talk about difficulty of killing someone with a gun two days after a giant shooting? I'd have fired the guy just for shitty foresight.

Worst reason ever to fire someone. Saying something insensitive =! psychotic killer.

But every time something big happens, everyone gets really jumpy for a while.
