Forget navel gazing...get out that mirror!
Warning: Links contain lots of talk about girlie bits and not in the happyfun way..

So over on [info]stupid_free, a post is made mocking a post in [info]vaginapagina discussing using hydrogen peroxide to cleanse themselves. [info]wieimmer starts off the fun with this:

Oh, gosh. I'm a girl and I totally cringed at that. Seriously, can there be a TMI note? As much as I appreciate vag-cleaning tips, I'd appreciate a bit of a warning before I click on that. D:

People basically tell [info]wieimmer to grow up, and how could she consider the links TMI when it says right in the post what it's about. Things still aren't horribly wanky until this exchange takes place:

[info]bluemamie: If you were my daughter I'd send you to the bathroom with a hand mirror and some Planned Parenthood tracts. Stat.
:)

[info]dindin: Because no one's ever complete without having examined their vagina with a hand mirror.

[info]chrushdmb: actually, every women should examine themselves with a hand mirror.

[info]dindin: Um, no. Every "women" doesn't need to, really. Frankly I have better things to do with my time and I'm well acquainted with my own anatomy.

[info]crushdmb: Yes, yes you should. I've had doctors actually suggest it. And how long would it take? Five minutes? Tops? And what is more important than your health?

[info]dindin: Hey, you want to sit around with a hand mirror, and your own crotch be my guest. I'll take care of my own health, thanks.

And it just goes downhill from there.

Wow, that's a whole lotta stupid.

This comment totally wins, however:

Well, the doctors will have to remove your hymen, but don't worry- you can have it starched and placed in a Precious Moments keepsake box to present to your husband on your wedding day.

Not to bring the serious, but I do get what what'shername was going on about there. It's so difficult to know what to expect re: hymen-breaking that I can really understand wanting to get something out of the pain (?) of it breaking.

Don't they teach anyone about stretching it anywhere? I picked that up from somewhere and omg best thing ever. Start small, work your way up.

I *have* heard about how it hurts less when it breaks because of stretching, but I don't like tampons.

It's okay, we can end this whenever anyone wants. I realize I am doomed to a life of lol ignorance no matter what sexual education I receive on the interblag.

Yeah, but that doesn't work for everyone. For example, if you have endo, it's going to hurt like hell no matter what you do, and then you're pretty much fucked. Or not fucked. I dunno.

Yeah, to chime in on the endo thing - it always hurts. It's the first time every time. You get over any queasiness one might have over their genitals if you're having to take care of them all the freakin' time.

Are you talking about endo or about vaginismus? Because isn't endo related to the inner organs and not the vagina/vulva/hymen area?

It's located in the uterus, or rather in the lining, but for some reason it can still make vaginal penetration a real bitch. Couldn't tell you why, though.

I kind of like that she thinks losing her virginity is going to be good enough to justify the pain. Because I'm vindictive like that.

I saw the thread earlier, and didn't have the heart to inform her that she was highly unlikely to get much pleasure out of her deflowering, especially if she is wiggy using tampons.

The whole bit about the penis being vagina-shaped and that it being larger than tampons comforting her was just precious, though.

I settled for being highly amused.

Wait, penises (penisii?) are vagina-shaped? Why didn't anyone ever tell me that?

This may explain why I'm a lesbian.

It's either "penises" or if you wanna be pretentious, "penes".
Yes, the plural of penis is one of my pet peeves.

I might not orgasm during the sex, but I probably will during the oral beforehand.

Yeah, because every woman orgasms during oral sex.

We can only hope. Also that her partner knows what he's doing, since she evidently plans not to.

The more I think about it, the more I think she'll be on [info]badsex soon. Though when I try to go there, I get a 410 message, so maybe not.

Actually, I kind of wish my hymen had been broken and healed up nicely way before I ever had sex, because it took like a freaking month afterwards to heal before I could have sex again because it hurt so damned much (afterwards, actually, not so much while it was happening). Neither myself nor my boyfriend was too happy about that, trust me.

And, um, yay TMI I suppose...

I don't understand why she thinks this is going to break her hymen. I had at least one GYN exam before I started having sex and my first time still hurt like hell. (I second the comments below that there are ways to not have it hurt like that. But my point is that the doctor definitely did not break my hymen.)

[info]catslash

I dunno, reading that thread is making me think that I am not as educated about the hymen as I thought I was. Our sex ed in high school was pretty thorough, with memorizing diagrams and all, but - I assumed mine had broken years ago. Now I'm starting to wonder, because if I'm wrong about that, it would explain a few things.

So, yeah, I'm seeing how she can misunderstand that even if she did get a good education about sex and sexual organs.

Maybe it's me that's wrong after all. I just honestly had never heard that before, just that the doctor would use a smaller speculum. But it's been many years since I was a virgin. Ahem.
