All links SFW.
In apology for having to eat my hat, I present you this piece of work.

There was a meme that went around LJ. It measured your "coolness" factor, among other things.

The creator of the meme decided that it was too good an opportunity to pass up, and used it for unscrupulous purposes goatse.

People are unhappy, to say the least.

Edit: I should add that as of right now (1:38 AM EST), the post is still safe for work. I can't guarantee where the links in it might lead you to, though.

So what was the "meme" originally? What did it ask, exactly? (Aside from which other LJers you've dated.)

And really I think stuff like this is a bit creepier.

That link is really creepy. *shakes head*

I wonder if the people from this wank could use it...to make sure they know everything so the guy can ask them out since they'd have *everything* in common.

Remember, if they can't take the trouble to try to trick you into revealing your personal details, they don't really like you!

So I need to be less suspicious and just put my information all wily-nilly in order to get a stalker who loves me.

Hey, Dr. Phil lied. He said stalkers were bad. Phooey on him. Real love requires restraining orders.

Or at least restraints..

But then, it took me years to realise I roll that way.. heh

Yeah, but then you have to be honest and upfront. Boys (because only the opposite sex relationships matter) only love you if they stalk and fillet your dog.

Ah, creepy e-stalker fodder.

And guess how I, ah, found it?

It's a happy circumstance that I like to screw with online quizes (but I still don't trust that person now).

Are there really that many people dumb enough to answer a spam e-mail asking a bunch of highly personal questions including your REAL NAME?
Then again, there's apparently enough dumb people to justify all those Nigerian e-mails scams, so...

I think when I saw it, it sent an e-mail out that had a title of '[insert your friend's name] wants to see how cool you are! Take the meme.' Therefore it came from your friend who wanted you to fill it out and if you trust that friend you might think it was ok.

Yea, but why does your friend need your real name and number?

It's a meme? You do that sort of thing on meme's. I didn't do it because I don't do meme's but I see them posted all the time with that sort of question (Name, age etc.) I've never really gotten the draw of the meme myself. I only post the funny ones and those are usually random anyway.

You don't normally give out personal contact info on memes.
