In apology for having to eat my hat, I present you this piece of work.

There was a meme that went around LJ. It measured your "coolness" factor, among other things.

The creator of the meme decided that it was too good an opportunity to pass up, and used it for unscrupulous purposes goatse.

People are unhappy, to say the least.

Edit: I should add that as of right now (1:38 AM EST), the post is still safe for work. I can't guarantee where the links in it might lead you to, though.

One of my least favorite wank "tactics" is when one person is arguing that it isn't illegal and thirty people dogpile on to say "HOMG but does that make it morally right???"

ALSO. beckyzoole needs to stop being so "understanding" or whatever. Darling, the anonymice don't need you to "walk them through" getting an LJ account.

And how likely is it that your employer is going to be standing behind you while you LJ at work at the same time that goatse comes up? It's not like your computer's going to start flashing red because ohnoes bad pictures came up! Just scroll past.

There is someone on my friends' list who lives in Tehran. She used to do a lot of memes, although she hasn't posted much lately. But the very first thing I did when I got the heads-up about this goatse "prank" was check her LJ to make sure she hadn't done the LJ Mojo meme.

Her life would have been in danger if she had.

Fortunately she had not done the meme, she had no goatse in her LJ, there was no chance that her brother, who monitors her blogging, would kill her to preserve the family honor.

Er...I'm guessing her friend went "yea, all right, thanks" and warned her brother next.

It's the internet. Pop-ups happen.

Not if you know how to stop them.

*cough Firefox/AdBlock/Linux OT3 cough*

Or random-porn.

Either way, it all reminds me of that one scene with the Klatch ambassador in 'Jingo'. All those assumptions about zomg foreigners are barbarians.

Where I work they save everything that passes through their servers (I think), usually a complaint would have to be made, but I believe that they do random checks on images or something. A guy has been fired for looking at porn while at work, even though he was in an office on his own.

I think she was being sarcy with the sign up comment. I thought she was implying that the mice were too stupid to figure out how to sign on... has the internet ruined me?? D:

As for the flashing red, I was once sent an attachment that started flashing red all over my screen with the caption 'Porn Download in Progress' my boss was indeed standing right behind me, thankfully he almost wet himself laughing at it, while I just sat there blushing furiously :D

Honestly, I think most work environments would have someone in the IT department who would know that that 99% of people who see Tubgirl/Goatse aren't looking at it because they're bent that way.

But they're going to, like, check to see if there's more "porn" that just goatse, right? The people who monitor that sort of thing would know about goatse, right?

I think she was *trying* with the comments, but it was the same thing each time. And I didn't think it was pushed enough to be sarcastic, but now, yeah.

*lols at you*

I informed one of my coworkers that downloading Naruto:Shippuden was illegal. He said it wasn't, said that "just because man says it's illegal doesn't make it illegal", and asked me if what Hitler did was illegal.

I swear. One of his other arguments was that piracy was right, because technology enabled stuff to be pirated.

See, I'd counter that by "pirating" things from his desk when he's not looking. Not, like, personal items he would have bought, but desk supplies like staplers and such.
