In apology for having to eat my hat, I present you this piece of work.

There was a meme that went around LJ. It measured your "coolness" factor, among other things.

The creator of the meme decided that it was too good an opportunity to pass up, and used it for unscrupulous purposes goatse.

People are unhappy, to say the least.

Edit: I should add that as of right now (1:38 AM EST), the post is still safe for work. I can't guarantee where the links in it might lead you to, though.

No. I eventually gave up trying to close them and just rebooted the computer.

Remember when you right-clicked on a page, and you got a dialogue box saying "DO NOT STEEL"? And it was always, always on the most crap websites?

I liked to right-click to open links in new windows, especially on crapass fanpages with poor set-up where it was hard to get back to the main page.

I hated when the box said things like, "Picture stealer!! Caught you!1!!!!" *twitch*

Shift+Click for new windows. Ctrl+Click for new tabs (IE7 and Firefox).

:) This was back in the day of geocities, so I probably hadn't figured that out yet. Plus, Firefox was just a twinkle is someone's eye. But man I love me some tabs... ;)

Ah, Geocites. Since replaced by Myspace, LJ, and actual private hosting.

It shall not be mourned.

(Reposted for clarity.)

I HATE those right-click dialogs; still run into them on occasion. Once, somebody stole some graphics made for my HP EzBoard then had the balls to put them up on their own board, and install a right-click protection script with a ZOMG DUN STEEL message.

Oh, god, those are so lame. Maybe some of us just like opening links in new windows.

Fortunately, both Firefox and Opera have the capacity to disable JavaScript. :D

I like opening links in new windows/tabs, too- and perhaps some of us also don't want to use certain sites' precious screen captures/sprites for nefarious purposes and just like having copies on our hard drive.

Firefox/HlR OTP. Firefox has so many useful things. :D

I almost was one of those guys; I had a VBScript button on my Diaryland diary that said "Hello". When clicked, it said "My name is Jonathan Wood."

Unfortunately, VBScript only worked in IE. My logic was that if readers didn't want to use the most popular browser around, that was their problem. Ah, naivete.

At least that doesn't sound too terribly annoying.
