Over at the xkcd feed, polyanarch informs us that he hates Godwin’s law and all the sheep who follow it, and all comparisons to Hitler are inherently valid.

Oh? Oh, okay then.

polyanarch‘s intellectual mendacity and utter lack of empathy or redeeming value thus makes him like Hitler, in a way.

He’s probably a Hitler clone. Or maybe a cheap knockoff from Guangzhou. Except without the charisma. Or the ability to speak German. Or the cogent arguments. Or the pleasant demeanor.

I love it when stupid people attack other stupid people--you get stupid from both sides.

One of my pet peeves online is people abusing Godwin's Law. Godwin's Law does not determine who is right. However, numerous people cite it as if they've won the argument simply because someone made a comparison.

Comparisons to Hitler/Nazis aren't intrinsically invalid. Furthermore, many people can't distinguish quantitative from qualitative differences. Many things of much less severity are still analogous because they are qualitatively the same within the context.

Godwin's Law is nothing more than a prediction--that as a thread grows longer, the likelihood of someone mentioning Nazis/Hitler approaches 100%.
