With four eyes, we can wank harder.
[info]aint2nuts has a daughter about 9 years old who always forgets her glasses, costing her mother money. She's bought the kid nice frames she likes, she's tried to work it out with the teacher, and... nothing. So she asks [info]thequestionclub for advice. It mostly works out okay.

Randomly, [info]connusdavance snits that it's all [info]aint2nuts's fault for sending the daughter to school in the first place. [info]aint2nuts figures if [info]connusdavance is going to be so adamant about [info]aint2nuts homeschooling her daughter, why not Paypal her so she can afford it? But [info]connusdavance seems to have missed the point. Which is then ignored in favor of placing the blame solely on [info]ain2nuts not being nice, so obviously [info]aint2nuts's daughter acts out because her daughter hates her. Pure, unadulterated hate. Otherwise, kids don't lie. Ever. They are innocent, holy creatures. Trufax. Myself, I think [info]connusdavance has been reading way too much William Blake and will soon be jacked by a kindergardener outside the Toys 'R' Us.

Edited for clarity.

Oh, and [info]aint2nuts has now made a separate post bringing the mockity mock.

When s/he asked "do you have your child's heart?" I immediately wanted to say "Yeah, I'm planning on eating it with some fava beans and a nice chianti..."

Weird, the idea that teachers brainwash kids, but mothers who allow their kids to attend school and meet outsiders are in no way resstricting exposure to new thinking. And the idea that kids go to school so they can meet other kids, make friends, learn about relationships? Totally absent.

That was the whole reason I got put in daycare to begin with. Other than my two older cousins, whom I only saw about once a month, I was never around anyone within twenty years of my own age until the 'rents decided to send me to daycare the year before kindergarten (It didn't go so well, sadly. I wound up with ten stitches after this psycho girl bit my hand to the bone for not giving her my tinker toys).

Oh, I totally know where this [info]connusdavance person is coming from. As a teacher, I totally brainwash kids all the time, and then steal their hearts so their parents can't have 'em. I like to eat them and wash them down with a glass of wine while grading tests and laughing maniacally.

Indeed. I mean, my parents both went to university, have loads and loads of books and are generally clever and well-educated beings, yet they surely wouldn't have been able to teach me everything that I learnt at school (even though I had some bad teachers - not to mention that kids actually like being able to go out of the house from time to time.

No.

No, no, no.

All this is, is trying the same thing that didn't work before and expecting a different outcome.

In general, negative feedback is not an effective way to change behavior. Increasing amounts of bad consequences when bad consequences haven't worked through several iterations does a lot of things, mostly making the kid paranoid, resentful, increasingly oppositional, and, in the case of kids with underlying perceptual, neurological, or emotional problems, hopeless and depressive.

Yeah, I had to do sentences as a kid 'cause I forgot my stupid recorder (the instrument, not the type where you record people's voices.)

It never helped me remember my recorder, but I improved my handwriting. :D

The same goes for the punishment where I was supposed to write out multiplication tables. I don't remember what I did to deserve that one.

Am I weird in that I liked school - all ten of them (parents travelled a fair bit)? Always being the new kid wasn’t the best, but I survived. Now, having the same geography text book from the age of seven to fourteen was the worst thing; Nigeria, Malaysia, South Africa and back to Ol’ Blighty. Travel the world and get bored by geography!
