Fun with Apple!
In which a misinformed blog posting causes stock droppage (maybe), panic (yes), and wank (definitely).

The chain of events goes something like this:

Engadget: ZOMG! The iPhone and Leopard are going to be delayed! Internal email says so!
Apple haters: IN YOUR FACE, APPLE!
Apple fans: Bullsh!t! Show us proof!
Apple stock: *thud*
Apple: Um, just one good goddamn minute. No. Not true. Here's an official press release and everything.
Engadget: Um. Oops. Sowwy.
Engadget commenters: *lots of shouting, including taking Engadget to task for printing something unsubstantiated*

Good times.

Mostly, I'd really like to see Steve Jobs's face right now -- I'm sort of surprised I didn't hear the blast in Cupertino all the way from Texas. And I'd really hate to be the Apple employee(s) who leaked the fake email to Engadget.

And here I was hoping Apple stock would drop because people were as annoyed by their latest shitty ad campaign as I was.

A friend's suggested that if you put enough tirbute videos of that and Hard Gay clips on YouTube, the internet wil actually implode from the collected stereotypical gayness.

Every time I see another one of those ads I want to yell "STOP IT YOU'RE MAKING MY SIDE LOOK BAD!" they are that smug.

They've more or less affirmed my decision never to touch an Apple product with anything less than a fifty foot pole. Just call me crazy, but it's bad form to talk down to the majority of the consumer base.

It is extreeemly tacky, that ad campaign. With that angle, they're just preaching to the converted, so wtf mate? >:(
Is it some clever psychological ploy to make Windows users feel lame and omg not kewl enough that they have to run out and buy Apple shit?

The way I am, if I was not an Apple user and I saw those fucking ads all sneering away at me, I'd be all "STFU APPLE I'M NOT BUYING SHIT."

And as someone who does Apple tech support …some of those ads are what I gently call "misleading" mmkay?

I think one of the main problems with Mac advertising these days is that they've actually bought into that whole "exclusive community" BS surrounding the Apple company. Reality check: it's a computer, not an Freemason Association.

And as someone who does Apple tech support …some of those ads are what I gently call "misleading" mmkay?

After I watched the "genius ad," I turned to my sister and said, "How @%@#$#@! naive do they think we are?" Because I totally believe that getting me a Mac will free me of all the unavoidable issues that come hand in hand with technology. 9_9

Oh right, and I'm not going to go into the average home user's issues versus the hardcore user's issues (publishing and design industry, yeah I'm LOOKING AT YOU).
I've seen things, my friend. THINGS.

Though, as a life-long Apple customer, I will say that the most annoying, frequently-fucked up Mac we've had was STILL less of a pain to fix than the one PC we own. Though I suspect it's much more annoying when you aren't in the heart of Apple Country and don't have access to at least three nearby stores with Genius Bars.

One of my Apples is a second-generation iMac (ROOOBY RED) AND IS STILL RUNNING* with minimal fuss. Of course it's a twee slow but it's a good place to store obnoxious macros, porn and bittorrented anime files on my home network.

*Although, not with the same hard drive, or memory, etc, etc

My nine-year-old limeMac just lost its power supply, and what's out on the market is expensive and unwarrantable, so I'm getting a Mac Mini soon. We've had Macs since the very early nineties. My husband was maintaining a college computer lab with both PCs and Apples, and it has been his choice all along not to have to deal with Windows OS problems after work- especially now that he manages a Winserve environment (different job).

Oh I do not envy your husbands' job.
The little troubleshooting experience I've had* has left me with a feeling of DO NOT WANT.

But I admit Windbloze XP Pro's built in remote desktop capabilities are superior. *waits for vicious beatings by Apple fanboys*

*contrary to popular belief, just because one is proficient with one platform doesn't mean the can't munge their way around the other!
