You say Aubergine, I say Eggplant
I've never posted a wank before. YAY me!

I bring you Eggplant Wank.

It's a recipe. For eggplant. But go to the comments!

Yes, that inoffensive vegetable brings the wankers to the table. See them argue over MSG! Sugar! Disparage Americans, Brits, and New Zealanders!

A highlight:
"It doesn't take much to bring the Nazi tree huggers out. OH!!! Don't eat MSG!! OH!!! Save a tree, but could you hold my place in the tree line whle I get an abortion!!!

FWIW, the recipe is pretty good :D

how very amusing, that a resident of the country that invented the corn-dog and fried peanut-butter and banana sandwich, would criticise British cuisine!

WHAT

Obviously this person has never had a peanut butter and banana sandwich.

Mmmmmmm.

I love peanut butter and bananas on toast. I've never done the fried sandwich thing, though. It sounds like too much.

why do Americans feel it necessary to adulterate fresh vegetables with 'ketchup' and 'sauces' - a nation yet to understand that less is more.

Yes, we're the ONLY ones who use 'sauces.' Because, say, traditional Indian vegetarian cuisine is completely free of those 'sauce' things. (Great, now I'm craving vegetable tikka masala...)

Or maybe "'ketchup' and 'sauces'" means that we're referring to things in code? I wonder what they stand for ...

Stevia is a natural sweetner derived from a plant. The Japanese have been using it for a long time. It does NOT affect glucose levels like every other sweetner. Sugar, particularily white, refined sugar is one of the worst things the food industry has created! Don't be fooled that this doesn't affect your health. Diabetes is on the rise!

I...wow. That's a special kind of stupid right there.

Silly me, and I always though sugar came from plants and was grown. :p

Seriously. And frankly, if someone wanted to blame a sweetner, go with high fructose corn syrup. That shit tastes nasty (one of the reasons I don't drink American/non-Kosher soda any more), incredibly pervasive in foods, and waaaaaaaaaaay more sugary than sugar. And it was pretty much only invented and is cost effective because of the mass overproduction of corn in the country which is a whole 'nother issue.

Yes indeed -- people blame 'sugar' for making their kids turn into hyper little demons when poor cane sugar isn't even on the scene and it's high fructose corn syrup, the evil twin, stroking its evil twin goatee in satisfaction as Little Timmy runs around the room for the billionth time.

Stevia is nasty, too. All cane sugar substitutes make me nauseated and give me headaches, even the 'natural' ones. Splenda? Check. Agave? Check. Stevia? Check and check. They're just too sickly sweet.
It's hard trying to convince people that I can't have them. 'But have you tried (insert name of fake-of-the-moment here)??' Yes, it makes me sick. All. Of. Them. Make. Me. Sick. Why is this so hard to accept?

Ok, I just have to comment again because I just remembered this:

The Azhar University (a kind of... Islamic uni) has banned the long, narrow type of aubergines from the girl dorms. For... obvious reasons.

I just love this.

Is this ban exclusively on aubergines, or are other veggies and fruits included? ;) (all in the interest of scholarly study, of course!)

Really. How about summer squash? Big carrots? Plantains? Yams (which carve well. Um--not that I have any reason for knowing that)?

And who decides that a given eggplant is robust enough to have no anatomical symbolism? Is some administrator charged with the duty of Vegetable Oversight?

For those curious about the Fried Peanut Butter and Banana Sandwich, also known as The Elvis Sandwich:

4 ounces whole peanut butter
2 slices Texas Toast or 1/2-inch thick bread
1 whole ripe banana
4 ounces whole butter

Spread peanut butter side to side, evenly on 1 side of each piece of bread. Slice banana in 3/4-inch slices and place on 1 piece of bread with peanut butter. Banana slices should be close together, and cover 1 side completely (usually 9 slices). Top with the other slice of bread.
Heat butter in saute pan on medium heat. Place sandwich in pan and brown for approximately 3 to 5 minutes or until golden brown. Add 2 ounces of butter to the pan and flip sandwich to other side and continue cooking for 2 to 5 minutes or until golden brown and peanut butter is melting. Cut into quarters and serve very hot.

Mmmm.

In Scotland, they have fried mars bars.

I like aubergines. I actually have a little aubergine teapot. Sadly, though, it's only decorative.

Also, I don't like wank near my food, it's unhygienic. :\
