Current mood:*sigh*

You, out of my (non)religious affiliation!
Oh, man. Over in the _discussion community on LJ, some dude called [info]nicknoble (have I seen this guy wanking somewhere before?) posts about Jack Kevorkian's release from prison.

[info]ghostrider then decides to come by and stir up shit, and even brings over a posse from the atheism community to join the fray. Much wank and profound misunderstanding of the scientific method on both sides of the argument ensues.

(And in case anyone checks out [info]ghostrider's LJ and is concerned by all the references to highschool, I checked. I'm sad to say that dude is, in fact, 18.)

[info]ghostrider: Uh, Jesus came back from the dead.

[info]nicknoble: no he didnt, sounds like you have no idea what you are talking about, but no suprize there, but to informe you, he died, went to hell, and then went to heaven

... Wut? He was ressurrected and then ascended to heaven. I mean, I know my Sunday School lessons are a bit shaky, but that was the entire point of the Easter story right?

Sounds like he's referring to the Harrowing of Hell..

(How completely sad is it that the only reason I know that is because of a course on Pre-Raphaelite poetry in which the professor felt compelled to explain all the references in Dante Gabriel Rossetti's sonnets to us?)

And after that he went back to Earth for a bit, or you wouldn't have Ascension and Pentecost.

Pre-Raphalite poetry can bite me. You (by which I mean my professor) mean to tell me that THAT was the most important thing I needed to know about the Victorian age?

See, no one agreed with my professor that it was the most important; I've never had any other class on it, while I've had numerous classes on Dickens and Eliot. He was just retiring after that semester and taught whatever suited his fancy. We read lots of sexual poetry. And Wilde.

Okay, that's pretty awesome.

See, my problem was that my degree requirements were laid out by era, so that when the prof who taught Victorian lit decided "let's do all pre-Raphaelite!" it meant that I missed pretty much everything else from that period.

I did like Swinburne, though.

Yeah, that was one of my favorite parts. I love how, when he gets called on it, he's all "mumble mumble non-literal interpretation mumble mumble."

Not to mention it's right there in the Apostle's Creed, so I'm guessing the wanker goes to a church where they don't recite it every week.

...well, okay, so sometimes we did the Nicene Creed..

Well, if he went to a Catholic church on Sundays, he wouldn't hear it..

But you get substantially the same message with the Nicene Creed, which is what we use. ^^

I don't know what's worse, nicknoble's spelling or his icon.

nicknoble: well you got it right... sorta... tho you did type it in a profoundly stupid way.

Well, look who's talking, mister let's all type in lowercase. People still think typing like that is profound? *headdesk*

Secondly, I don't believe in god because the concept is meaningless and stupid in any case. Therefore, your "greatest gift" argument is bullshit. Life did not come from a god; it came very a big explosion we all call "The Big Bang", and came to the modern age via evolution. Don't know what evolution is? Pick up a textbook.

"Oh, look, I say it's stupid and *poof*! It is! Wheeee!"

Still, honestly, that's the least intelligent argument against God I have ever seen. And he's got competition for that.

I know my father would be forced to bitch-slap them all with a book if he read their arguments. In addition, he's been married to my mom, who is Catholic, for over 20 years.

Five bucks says that would make their heads explode if someone told them that. Either that or they would call him a bad atheist. Probably the latter.

I rather like darthbeckman response. As for the rest? I really wish ghostrider would go off to some rave and then pretend he's someone from The Craft. Namely, the poor guy who died during the filming.

catholics are alloowed do drink and swearand fornicate. they tell the priest the priest makes them say hail marys five times and they go and do it again..till the next confession, protestants live in constant fear because the priest has no power its just an angry god that wants you to work all week and never masterbate. the second difference is the virgin mary..i really like the virgin mary

*headdesk*

There is just so much DUMB on both sides of that discussion, I don't even know what to say.

If their reasoning is true then why did I feel guilty for being so late to mass this morning that I just left and came back for a later mass.
