Current mood:*sigh*

You, out of my (non)religious affiliation!
Oh, man. Over in the _discussion community on LJ, some dude called [info]nicknoble (have I seen this guy wanking somewhere before?) posts about Jack Kevorkian's release from prison.

[info]ghostrider then decides to come by and stir up shit, and even brings over a posse from the atheism community to join the fray. Much wank and profound misunderstanding of the scientific method on both sides of the argument ensues.

(And in case anyone checks out [info]ghostrider's LJ and is concerned by all the references to highschool, I checked. I'm sad to say that dude is, in fact, 18.)

[info]ghostrider: Uh, Jesus came back from the dead.

[info]nicknoble: no he didnt, sounds like you have no idea what you are talking about, but no suprize there, but to informe you, he died, went to hell, and then went to heaven

... Wut? He was ressurrected and then ascended to heaven. I mean, I know my Sunday School lessons are a bit shaky, but that was the entire point of the Easter story right?

Sounds like he's referring to the Harrowing of Hell..

(How completely sad is it that the only reason I know that is because of a course on Pre-Raphaelite poetry in which the professor felt compelled to explain all the references in Dante Gabriel Rossetti's sonnets to us?)

And after that he went back to Earth for a bit, or you wouldn't have Ascension and Pentecost.

Pre-Raphalite poetry can bite me. You (by which I mean my professor) mean to tell me that THAT was the most important thing I needed to know about the Victorian age?

See, no one agreed with my professor that it was the most important; I've never had any other class on it, while I've had numerous classes on Dickens and Eliot. He was just retiring after that semester and taught whatever suited his fancy. We read lots of sexual poetry. And Wilde.

Okay, that's pretty awesome.

See, my problem was that my degree requirements were laid out by era, so that when the prof who taught Victorian lit decided "let's do all pre-Raphaelite!" it meant that I missed pretty much everything else from that period.

I did like Swinburne, though.

Yeah, that was one of my favorite parts. I love how, when he gets called on it, he's all "mumble mumble non-literal interpretation mumble mumble."

Not to mention it's right there in the Apostle's Creed, so I'm guessing the wanker goes to a church where they don't recite it every week.

...such a thing exists!?

...well, okay, so sometimes we did the Nicene Creed..

Well, if he went to a Catholic church on Sundays, he wouldn't hear it..

But you get substantially the same message with the Nicene Creed, which is what we use. ^^
