Quit having kids, you're wasting my money!
A post is made to [info]bad_service in which a mother with WIC vouchers and several kids was insulted to her face and behind her back by a clerk. While most people seem to agree that this is bad service, about half the commentors are also quick to tell the OP that she's brought it all on herself and to either quit whining or quit popping out babies she can't afford. 123 comments of "My thoughts on having kids" and growing.

Man. I don't get welfare. If they buy something nice, they're evil thieves leeching off the system. If they buy their kids food, they're evil thieves leeching off the system.

I need the secret key!

[info]tigerwolf is attempting to clarify their position here in [info]c_suck_snark(post is locked but it is an open membership community).

And, possibly apropos of nothing, the OP of the [info]bad_service post is also the OP of this gem.

Wow, the husband sounds like a winner (though I still think she's nice). Hasn't she ever heard that you don't marry someone expecting to change them?

Frankly I'm far more bothered that she's married to that choad than I am the fact that she's having four kids on welfare.

That's the magic of the internet. It turns everybody into a two dimensional dick/hero. That's why everything is in black and white here... wait a minute... *hits monitor* There are colors! What does this mean?! Nothing makes sense anymore!

Dude. DUDE. Fuck 'project' people. People who are dicks like that STAY dicks like that. She's gonna fix her husband? He doesn't need fixing, he needs a kick to the teeth and a divorce lawyer.

Going by the 'OMG your spending MY MONIEZ on YOUR KIDS' I'm thinking that these people don't really understand how taxes work. Once you pay your tax, that money is no longer yours. It's part of a public fund that the government decides how to spend, if you don't like their choices then you vote for a new goverment. And whether she has one kid, four kids or a squillion kids, your tax rate isn't going to change.

Personally, I wish my goverment spent more of the money from my taxes on supporting poor people and their children rather than gutting welfare and education so that Peter Costello can have a big budget surplus to roll around in. Since I don't want to have kids myself, I'd prefer to invest in the future of my society and culture by supporting a woman with four kids and helping to put each and every one of those little darlings through a good university. Because Mr Costello and Co. are going to tax me the same anyway, at least that way I get something out of it. A healthy, well-educated generation to support me in my disreputable, stinky, twenty-cat-having old age. I plan to spend my share of their taxes on porn, kitties, soft toilet paper and missiles to hurl at their offspring.

It's the ciiiiircle of liiiiiife....

As someone who was screwed royally by Centrelink this year and not given Youth Allowance despite having all the qualifications to get it, IAWTC.

Never mind the fact that I'm expected to learn how to teach without any money for textbooks.

The way the OP's post read, I swear it sounded like the birth control failed each time making me wonder what she was on so I could avoid it like the plague.

WIC on the scale of welfare is an odd one. Back when I was pregnant with my son, both me and my then husband were making pretty good money and a pregnant friend of mine who was already on the assorted assistance programs told me I should apply for WIC. It threw me for a loop since in my mind I did associate it with it being only for those desperately in need.

My then hubby said least I could do was give it a look over because it couldn't hurt.

So, I went down to the office with my friend and scarily enough I did qualify for it even with what was good money coming in. The WIC office, however, was thrown for a loop since they didn't know how to process things with someone not already in the welfare system. Even called the office head over and even she was baffled.

They did give me the paperwork that both I and my OB/GYN had to fill out and I swear, only question missing on there was what position was the child concieved in. I was mortified with how nosey it seemed and my then hubby said it wasn't worth all that, so we ended up not going through with it. Not to mention I was already having to go to scads of appointments with the gestational diabetes I had with scheduling those around work, errands and that pesky thing called sleep and just couldn't budget time to fit in the appointments I'd've needed for the WIC monitoring to stay in the program.

With all that said, that OP's already got a full plate concidering how invasive welfare can be, having a schmuck of a husband along with having a job that on the scale is pretty much concidered dreck. As much as she said she wants a big family, with all that stacked up, she really should put that on hiatus until things are better.

But then, I do know couples where the one decided on a big family while the other didn't and things really went downhill with all the poking holes in condoms and diaphrams came out.

I love the idealism of the internet. You can spend five seconds dreaming up a plan for the best way to live one's life, then pass stern and condescending judgment on the ones whose circumstances or beliefs don't measure up.

Myself, I'm happy to help feed this lady's kids with my tax dollars in hopes that they'll grow up to have empathy for their fellow humans :)
