Fish-inna-barrel wank of the day
The NY Times newsblog The Lede reports that Paris Hilton is out of jail and under house arrest. Predictably, the comments thread explodes. 690 comments and counting.

My favorite part about this is actually not the comments thread (which is full of all the self-righteous wankery you'd expect, on all sides). It's the Recent Posts sidebar and the comment counts therein:

I find it especially funny, and possibly even a touch ironic, in light of the sheer number of people in the Hilton comments thread ranting about how news is SERIOUS BUSINESS and complaining about the girl getting yet more airtime.

TMZ is saying now that the DA is hauling her back into court tomorrow, because the judge specifically said no electronic monitoring devices in lieu of jail. Whee!

Go go action judge! Hooray! I have a serious crush on that guy now.

Also, my theory is that Paris annoyed the jailstaff so much that the "nervous breakdown" wasn't hers, but her warden's.

Honestly, that is exactly what I've heard--one of those "I know someone who says she knows someone who knows" things, but the theory is that the warden/sheriff really, really wanted her out of the jail; her being there was riling all the other prisoners and/or staff up, so when they found a reason to get her off his hands, he was more than happy to oblige. So the sheriff's probably going to get his ass kicked as well. WOOO!

I'd be interested to know if this is the same warden who has let other stars out with a slap on the wrist. If so, I'd be very suspicious about him accepting bribes to let them out early.

I wanna bring him home and just squish him to pieces. I love this guy. Seriously.

Also, from what I understand, Judge Sauer used to be very high up in the justice system, but instead of retiring asked to be given lighter duties and ended up in traffic court. That gives me the impression that he really wants to uphold justice (or at least the law) and is committed to doing it well no matter how "unimportant" other people may deem his position to be.

He totally deserves mad schnoogles. And cookies.

Now, see. He just rocks. I want him to get every single young star in his court and set their ass straight. *grins* Please? Pretty please?

He deserves a whole store's worth of chocolate now.

Dude, that's even better than when the Govornator said he had more pressing issues to deal with than her petition to not have to go. The awesome is spreading. XD

Oh, yeah. I was like "Wow... I still hate him, but he just jumped quite a few notches on the respect ladder," when I saw the article on Yahoo!News. Mama LOL'd when I showed it to her.

Of course now she gets to literally phone it in. Because... courtrooms make her itchy?

I just saw that headline. Way to completely harsh my buzz, Paris.

So at this point do we just give up and start the Paris vs. Lindsey Death By Overdose pool?

See, I don't even think there's a question there. Lindsay would definitely be the one to OD; if anything, Paris would wind up killing someone else.

Good point. I suppose it's too much to hope she takes out Dina while she's at it.

And CNN now tells me that Paris has to haul her ass to court anyway. HA HA.

And the sight of her bawling face inside that car warmed my heart right through ^___^
