Fish-inna-barrel wank of the day
The NY Times newsblog The Lede reports that Paris Hilton is out of jail and under house arrest. Predictably, the comments thread explodes. 690 comments and counting.

My favorite part about this is actually not the comments thread (which is full of all the self-righteous wankery you'd expect, on all sides). It's the Recent Posts sidebar and the comment counts therein:



I find it especially funny, and possibly even a touch ironic, in light of the sheer number of people in the Hilton comments thread ranting about how news is SERIOUS BUSINESS and complaining about the girl getting yet more airtime.

Sure! :D I'm glad SOMEONE, FINALLY, likes it! I was wearing it in ONTD for the longest time and nobody said a thing.

I was like - Damn. It's PSB! How can you not spot the awesome?! This music video was a huge influence on the development of my 'fabulous'.

Well, it is ONTD. The PSB might be a little bit too highbrow for them.

You have no idea how long I had been waiting to make screencaps of the What Have I Done to Deserve This? video. I got PopArt on DVD and ran to my computer, only to find out that my DVD-rom was broken. Woe. Something about the woman with the glasses just completely drew me in. Also, it confirmed my belief that showgirls are the perfect accessory for every social function.

It is on YouTube, which is where I finally got the cap. I also recommend the Minimal video, if you haven't seen it yet.

Also Dusty Springfield, but alas, it is not to be. However, I think that Kylie Minogue can do in a pinch.

I want to make some icons using either the "Was it worth it?" or "Paninaro '95" videos. Or maybe something from the "Performance" tour DVD.

Have you ever seen "It Couldn't Happen Here"? I've never been able to find a copy, unfortunately.

I have, I have!

My husband has it on laserdisc. The best part? It's a Japanese import, and so while in English, is subtitled in Japanese. Which adds a certain je ne sais quoi to the whole thing, which is a big pile of WTF to begin with.

I've found clips from it on YouTube. I'll see if I can locate them.

Freakin' sweet! My best friend and I went to see the Boys in concert last year, and she wanted to ask them if "It Couldn't Happen Here" would ever be released on DVD, but we didn't really have time to talk, just get quick autographs.

*envies autographs* We saw them on the tour, but I generally suck at the whole "trying to meet the band" thing.

There's an entry on It Couldn't Happen Here on Wiki, and as it turns out it points to the entire thing uploaded on Google Video. The quality is kind of crap, as you might expect, but ... it's the whole thing. :D With Japanese subtitles and all.

Ha, I'm actually kind of an autograph whore. Last year I got The Strokes, Slim Cessna's Auto Club, and the Boys. I really wanted to get Tom Petty's autograph, but it wasn't to be. Awesome concert, though. This summer I'm hoping to catch the White Stripes and Rufus Wainwright. For some reason I just love having autographs as souvenirs of concerts.
