In case you missed it, the logo for the 2012 London Summer Olympics was unveiled not too long ago. (It's coming to get you!)

The reaction? Not great.

A lone voice shouts...we liked it.

Aaand petition!

Wait... isn't this the London logo that won originally? Not the burning pink monstrosity...

That london logo actually has all those elements they are now trying to say are "bad" and the new logo not having those are what's great. I find that ironic. My bet is they made their nifty logo and realized upon winning it would be a bitch to replicate on everything they need to. That's my theory on the matter.

Anyhow... I don't like it all that much. And where are the olympic rings? How can you have an olympic logo without the rings? Then all you are left with is a year and city. I'd want my olympics merchandise to have the rings since I'm there for the olympics not London. >_>;

Is anyone else really hating the font they used for "London"? It makes me twitch even worse than the colors do. Whoever designed this thing should seriously refund london their money. It's obvious they didn't put much effort into it. I refuse to believe this logo took almost a year to create and needed that amount of money. It sucks. And the Pink one is the worst of all of them.

The rings are in the zero/head and the logo used when London was only a candidate was probably scrapped because it was considered too run of the mill and just not 'edgy' enough. I imagine good ol' Lord Coe had something to do with it as he gives off that kind of earnest and enthusiastic tendency to "get down with the kids" without realising he looks and sounds like a moron.

Heh. I thought the original was a little lack lustre at first, but it was quite nice and when I thought about it more, it was really attractive. I'd much prefer that on a t-shirt than the "new" logo. :P What poor saps "private funding" paid for that shit anyways? Also someone should clue that guy in. Adults are the ones that pay for the merchandise not the kids. So generally, having something that can appeal to all ages is the smarter way to go. :/

This reminds me of when Amtrak first released the Acela logo. The younger guys working in my mom's department (accountants for amtrak) had snickerfits for a good long time. At least that logo did actually look kinda cool though.

They used Comic Sans. The most hated font of all!

Oh god, tell me I'm definitely not the only one who finds it fucking hilarious that they spend a shitload of money for a crappy new logo and then go on to use the first free font they could find. Rather than you know, invest in a nice looking font for a teensy fraction of what the logo itself cost. (I knew it looked familiar). I erased it from my own font database in favor of fonts that actually looked nice. Hell, Arial or Times would have probably looked nicer. Not that any font could have saved the mess that the logo itself is.

Quick, find me a font that doesn't look nicer than Comic Sans.

I I know I could but damn it's too scary. I traumatizd myself the last two times I had to wade through free fonts for decent icon-applicable ones. D:

This one looks like it could be a bastard cousin? BUt I don't think even that can top the fugliness that is comicsans.

The lowercase "d" in "London" BURNS MY EYES. What font is that, Technica Arse?

Nope, not comic sans. It looks a bit like it, and it's as ugly as comic sans, but comic sans is not that pointy.

Whatever it is I know I've seen it before. And it wasn't any better then. Probably on a crappy icon or one of those websites that offer ugly free fonts.

I think there's a community on LJ that is for identifying fonts. Maybe I should post asking about it, because it bugs me not knowing when I feel like it's familiar.
