Best advice I ever heard about this whole thing was "Change the legal language to define a 'legal union' as being between two consenting adults (and minors with stipulations) in the eye of the law granting them the right of taxes, health care and compensation for support, and tell the religious freaks to use marriage if they want. Since it's all quibbling over a freaking definition anyway, take the word out."

Which... I know, might be earth logic.
