All over plastic lunch boxes
Every time I think I've seen it all, I see something new and stranger.

Over on bentolunch ss_biggie makes a post about how one of their members, thejenn1, has been selling bento lunch boxes from her website bentoyum. The fact that she is both a small business owner and writing articles about her viral marketing makes her...something. I don't know what. This sends the community into an uproar of scandal as people are not happy that she didn't tell them she was in business to make money.

thejenn1 posts in her defense and it snowballs from there. Sockpuppeting accusations, social experiments, just JELUS, and general outrage over if her being a business even makes a difference.

Sit back, pull up some sushi. Kinda small, but tasty, lulz.

...Why do most of the sets for sale on bentoyum have the phrase "putifresh lube sheep" printed on them?

Is there some cultural thing I'm missing? Have I been hanging out on the wank communities so much that I'm automatically reading something drrrty into what's not there?

Sounds dirty, but is just another example of Engrish at its best. I don't know what they think it means, but they clearly find it a *grooving* name for their bento gear, that company.

Lube Sheep is the company that makes the boxes, Putifresh is one of their lines of boxes. Lube Sheep also makes the Clickety Click line. I heart their engrish.

I actually have Putifresh chopsticks and Lube Sheep bento boxes. I... have no explanation. It's just the name of the brand.

It's another example of that lovely insane translation sensibility that you see in Japan. Seriously strange stuff at times, but I find it rather poetic. It seems to be a combination of awkward translation and random sound aesthetics. I buy and sell Japanese movie magazines, and you see this kind of thing in those, too. I came across an article (written in Japanese, so I couldn't read it) about a pop band in one. Their band name was written in English in the article title - they are called "Bump of Chicken". It took me a while of scratching my head before I realized they were trying to call their band "Goosebumps". It made me both laugh out loud and love them dearly.
