All over plastic lunch boxes
Every time I think I've seen it all, I see something new and stranger.

Over on bentolunch ss_biggie makes a post about how one of their members, thejenn1, has been selling bento lunch boxes from her website bentoyum. The fact that she is both a small business owner and writing articles about her viral marketing makes her...something. I don't know what. This sends the community into an uproar of scandal as people are not happy that she didn't tell them she was in business to make money.

thejenn1 posts in her defense and it snowballs from there. Sockpuppeting accusations, social experiments, just JELUS, and general outrage over if her being a business even makes a difference.

Sit back, pull up some sushi. Kinda small, but tasty, lulz.

Screw the wank, I'm curious: Can one of those sets actually contain enough food to satisfy a normal person's hunger? I keep thinking they'd be great to help avoid overeating. . .but it looks like I'd be starving by 2 pm after one of those.

I became obsessed over this lately and yes...it's pretty filling. I last until about 4 or 5 PM and then it's almost time for dinner anyways. So I may include a bit of yogurt or fruit as a snack inbetween.

maybe the key is to pack it with small amounts of high energy foods?

Yea, mix protein and carbs in to have the best calorie mix. I use laptop lunch.

If you pack them right the milliliters of the container match the calories of the food, so a 600ml box is a 600 calorie meal. Note that "right" is according to Japanese nutrition guidelines which makes half the container be packed with rice which is pretty good at filling you up.

Milliliter is a really funny looking word....

I was skeptical about it at first, too, but there's actually a decent amt. of food in those things, esp. if you're careful about filling every. last. centimeter. If you empty it all out, it's at least one standard-sized plate full of food.

I usually have the pretty tiny box & a small 'other' box with an afternoon snack. That generally keeps me content.

The Washington Post recently did a good article about them. I'll put it up in my jf so you can get a fairly neutral idea of bentos. I like browsing on Bento Lunch, but they tend to be a little fanatical.

Oh, they definitely are. Then again, I have a pretty typical Asian appetite and I think American sizes are 4 times too big, so YMMV.
