How many goths does it take to build some fine Swedish furniture?
Ikea runs an advert that a particular product will brighten up your dorm room, "unlike a creepy gothic roommate, who can be a bad influence."

Gothfash, the lj goth fashion community reacts predictably, with a post titled, "I am outraged by this and I am going to write a letter."

Don't miss the derrogatory useage of the word 'norms' and how the oppression of the pasty, whiney, and emmaciated is ABSOLUTELY LIKE the systemic racism directed at African Americans!

The icing on the cake is that the OP, [info]mme_archel is community mod and owner.

Thanks to a mouse for the head's up!

I love Ikea but after seeing that I have no desire to shop with them again.

Oh, s/he says that NOW, but just wait until they need a new DVD rack. Where will their moral outrage be then?

Or dishtowels, compact fluorescents, and cheap wine glasses? A stylish yet affordable new duvet cover?

Then she'll know how strong are her feelings of moral outrage!

Me, too, then I can get to the Pendleton outlet, IKEA, and Fabric Depot, and the Clackamas Promenade Rack on my way to Heirloom Roses, loop around to Beaverton and go to the westside Powell's, Uwajimaya, and Trader Joes, and go back home over Cornelius Pass so I can hit Joy Creek Nursery on my way to the Lewis and Clark Bridge and home up I-5.

Of course I'd be broke and dead by then, and I would have missed Frye's in Woodburn and the Apple Store. But I wouldn't have paid any sales tax after Washougal!

(Julia from your flist, but you know that, right?)

Let's see whether that email reply thing works...

I'm exhausted reading that itinerary, but those are good places. I don't know the nurseries, but it's possible that Heirloom is where SL got roses for his dad last Christmas. I'm torn between the Clackamas Rack and the one in Tanasbourne, or whatever it is out there in the boonies of Hillsboro. I'm not allowed to go to Fabric Depot at the moment... :-)

Yes, I think I figured that out some time last year. Possibly earlier. You have a distinctive style. Usually. Which makes me happy.

I'm sort of insufficiently devious to maintain mouse status...

I have excellant shoe karma at the Clackamas Rack, so I always go there first; I used to go to the Tanasbourne one when we frequently stayed at the Residence in there with the kids, for reasons much too complicated to explain, but it's a dry hole for me for some reason.

Heirloom's the one in St. Paul; Joy Creek is in Scapoose and has wonderful perennials and shrubs.

It is good for my budget that I am so very far from Fabric Depot. Especially since they keep the silk so close to the entrance, so you have to see it coming in and going out.

*misses Portland like crazy*

Fortunately, here in Austin there's an IKEA already open! (Actually, it's about half an hour north of here, but who cares when you can buy a complete set of dishes for $18?)

What I really like is being able to buy sufficient 6oz wine glasses to use them at a party and not cry if they break.

And wool rugs cheap enough to use for a while and then compost when I get tired of them (no, really, I live on this SLOPE and I put them under fill to stabilize it).

And, goddess save me, Billy bookcases, of which I have, uh, lots and lots.

I bought a rug there and my cat immediately destroyed it. But it was only $10, so I didn't care! (Well, maybe a little.)

There are Billy bookcases in most of the rooms of my house. IKEA owns me.

Dude. Yes. My boyfriend and I drove through the parking lot the other day just to look at it. I felt like that old Mervyns commercial: "Open, open, open..." ;)

That just reminded me I do need to pick up some more bookshelves this weekend.
