How many goths does it take to build some fine Swedish furniture?
Ikea runs an advert that a particular product will brighten up your dorm room, "unlike a creepy gothic roommate, who can be a bad influence."

Gothfash, the lj goth fashion community reacts predictably, with a post titled, "I am outraged by this and I am going to write a letter."

Don't miss the derrogatory useage of the word 'norms' and how the oppression of the pasty, whiney, and emmaciated is ABSOLUTELY LIKE the systemic racism directed at African Americans!

The icing on the cake is that the OP, [info]mme_archel is community mod and owner.

Thanks to a mouse for the head's up!

Oh, thanks - I had thought that it came from "bad reputation" - you learn someting new on the internet everyday.

We English speakers love our slang. We use it so much that it can be hard for those that aren't native English speakers. I have a student helper from China that speaks English very well but is constantly confused by our slang.

My problem is that I assume people spell things wrong by default (like "definately", which you see so often, or like "plagerism", which makes me shudder instinctively). So when I saw "bad rap", I tried to explain it to myself and concluded "reputation" -> "rep" -> people misspell it and make it "rap". Seems one shouldn't assume too much.

Still, the internet is great for teaching slang; there are so many phrases which never even appear in dictionaries.
