There's a post in [info]stupid_free about people defending the terrorist actions of an animal rights group.

The stupid shows up to defend itself, and wank explodes. Way too much wank to link to.

Sentient, you keep using that word but I don't think it means what you think it means.

I valiantly waded through all the self righteous stupidity, pointing and mocking as I went, right up until the part where they started arguing about whether chickens are sentient.

Then my brain shorted out.

Sorry guys, but not only are chickens sentient, they're evil. Duh.

I think the best reason for eating chicken is that given the opportunity, they'd eat us first. I firmly believe this.

Hee!

I agree. And I had this conversation with a vegetarian friend of mine, which led to: "So, would you eat your own evil hand? If it tried to kill you and you had to cut it off?"

And swans too, of course.

And we don't even eat them! Not that I wouldn't love to see someone eat a swan.

...from a distance.

I've had a 'pet' chicken when I was a kid. I think my left butcheek was more sentient.

I'm not entirely sure why, but that made me laugh like a hyena on valium.

Thank you!

Also, they run around the barnyard after you cut their heads off, according to my dad, who grew up on a chicken farm.

Oh god.

I can't imagine what feeding a headless chicken with an eyedropper must have been like.

I can verify this, for as a child I was chased across the yard by a headless chicken. I took refuge on top of a dog house until the chicken ran out of steam and fell over. My dad explained the whole part about how chickens didn't die right away, and nervous systems, and blah blah blah, but I knew the truth: EVIL ZOMBIE CHICKENS.

My late grandmother who had as one of her chores the job to feed the chickens would heartily agree with the innate evilness of poultry in general.

Up to her dying day she still had some scars from those beaks on her legs.

Hissing, hackles lifting, the chicken's head rose.

Kahlan pulled back.

Its claws digging into stiff dead flesh, the chicken slowly turned to face her. It cocked its head, making its comb flop, its wattles sway.

"Shoo," Kahlan heard herself whisper.

There wasn't enough light, and besides, the side of its beak was covered with gore, so she couldn't tell if it had the dark spot. But she didn't need to see it.

"Dear spirits, help me," she prayed under her breath.

The bird let out a slow chicken cackle. It sounded like a chicken, but in her heart she knew it wasn't. In that instant, she completely understood the concept of a chicken that was not a chicken. This looked like a chicken, like most of the Mud People's chickens. But this was no chicken.

This was evil manifest.
