There's a post in [info]stupid_free about people defending the terrorist actions of an animal rights group.

The stupid shows up to defend itself, and wank explodes. Way too much wank to link to.

Oh for the sake of fuck. >< I love it when people become veg or vegan for the sake of their health, and then blow it all on meat-free junk food. Gives everyone a good name, innit?

I find usually the people who do it for health reasons are smart enough to know pretzel and peanut butter 4life! doesn't work. It's the ones that jump into it as a religious conversion who don't take time to say "Okay. HOw do I make this work in a college cafeteria?" and end up making vegans look totally stupid.

You know the other thing I'd be really interested in seeing a study on? The number of people who do really batshit insane veganism - like fruititarians - who can be diagnosed with an eating disorder.

Depends on the college cafeteria. Some places have cafeterias teeming with salad bars and "chicken" tenders.

Good point. My personal experiences are coloring my outlook more than a little here. My college cafe's concession to requests for vegetarian fare was a "vegetarian bar" that consisted of things like canned chickpeas and chunks of cheese supplimenting the salad bar. No entrees, nothing warm. And while I personally lived off the cheese and mandarin oranges from that section most of my sophomore year, sometimes an entree was really a nice option to have.

Poor you. My college had at least one vegetarian/vegan entree every night, plus a full salad bar and hot sides. Plus, they recently starting adding vegan desserts and, when they redid the menu in that particular dining hall, shifted one dining hall into having a special vegan bar area.

Not to mention the eco-friendly, super-crunchy, vegetarian/vegan dorm we had.

That's awesome. Props to your college!

Exactly. Plus, anyone who knows their way around a salad bar can make veganism work in a school cafeteria. It's not rocket science.

AHAHAHA. A batshit vegan of my acquaintance went to a nutritionist once, who diagnosed him with a protein deficiency. Clearly he wasn't eating enough Boca Burgers.
