Grammar wank ahoy
Snagged off stupid_free

[info]ilovefreaks has a bone to pick with the [info]writers_guild community:

To the grammer Nazis
I am sorry that you have no life and that all you do is blog and materbate. (Which makes for a very sticky keyboard)

Grammar nitpicking? On a writers' community? OH THE INDIGNITY.

The community members are less than amused, so she retorts with piercing rhetoric like "I do have good work it's just when people get so stuck on the grammar that they can't see anything else what does that make them. I have a right to bitch I'm an American!"

Also with a side of Nazi wank

In addition to that, courtesy of the sharp folks on stupid_free, we have an example of the eye-poppingly wonderful prose of [info]ilovefreak that's been so cruelly maligned by the denizens of [info]writers_guild:

READ IT. READ IT AND WEEP (WITH HAPPINESS).

You know what I love about her?

totally. she even said that. i can't relate to the story, i was too busy looking at the grammar.

i can understand if the story was REALLY bad grammar/spelling. if everything was misspelt and no capitals or fullstops at all. but i had those, and i spellchecked it. she couldn't get beyond the not perfect grammar at all. and was so rude about it when i told her that most peole post rough stories.

She holds grudges for such a long time. *sniffles* She still doesn't like me!

The word is anti-Semitic

No, the word refers to people who are anti-Semitic (well, really, anti-nonaryan). The word itself is not anti-Semitic, unless it has somehow acquired a soul and opinions. In which case I will concede that I am wrong.

Law and Oder SVU

In the criminal justice system, olfactory based offenses are considered especially heinous. In New York City, the dedicated detectives who investigate these fetid felonies are members of an elite squad known as the Stench Victims Unit. These are their stories....

[info]arrowintwolakes owns my heart, at least in that post.

Although all that bitching about people getting stuck on the grammar reminds me of the time the teacher put up a sentence to show an example of something-or-other and I commented that it was a run-on sentence. The teacher said that it was from a Famous Writer and I told him 'yeah, but it's still a run-on'.

It's actually not fan-fiction one of my dream jobs is to write for Law and order. However if you want something else I'll get something else.

*cackles* Oh hell no. ...although now I want to find some good SVU fics.

Oh, man, that is...that is special writing right there. Yikes.

Also, wasn't there already an SVU episode where some psychopathic girl tried to seduce Eliot while he was questioning her?

I love this argument. I'm confused, does she not want her beta to pick out any grammatical errors or misspelled words? Because any time I ask someone to edit something for me, I'm assuming they'll catch the little things I missed because I've read the same paragraph 500 times.

Also, I laughed out loud at this thread.

*reads* ...okay, did that chick just try to seduce Munch? Cause that's definitely getting into a creepy area.

The writing's horrific, but the dialogue sounds in-character enough. I'm wondering if she ripped off part of an episode for it.

I'd ask what she did to the poor commas and periods, but in this case, I don't think she did anything to them. They saw what she did to the colons and up and left on their own.

Exactly they focus more on the grammer then they do on whether or not the story is good.

Sweetheart, if they focus on the grammar, you have your answer: The story's not good.

Also, I believe no one should be held accountable for their bad grammer. Who has a say in what their grandmother does? As long as they're not huffing glue behind the 7-11 with Grammer and Gramper, they're innocent. Though the court would be more kindly disposed toward them if they used good grammar when testifying in the court case against their bad grammer.

This community was created for writers of all kinds who might like to talk about the mechanics of writing and its pitfalls and rewards.

"Who might like to...?" So I guess it's OK if ilovefreaks and the_faery_queen would rather talk about what assholes people who insist on good mechanics are. :-D Maybe they could form their own special community for that, and the patron saint could be, I don't know... Anne Rice?
