The Vulva Superstar PC Revue
[info]bellasmommy links to a [info]vaginapagina mod post about whether or not everyone who owns a vagina isn't grossly butthurt when it's implied that zhe is a woman.

[info]stupid_free disagrees. For 700 comments, and counting....

Choice bits:

[info]jack_jackrum: Some people who have vaginas are not women, ladies, or girls. I don't see how this is hard to understand. Have you been under a rock for the last 50 years?
[info]freezer818: Seems like overdramatic, oversensitive hair-splitting that will cause more drama than it's meant to prevent. But what do I know, I'm just a lowly man. *crawls back under rock*

[info]pettythiefIn the example the poster gives (paraphrasing) "recommend that women get pap-tests", how do you re-write that sentence so as not to offend people who have a cervix but don't call themselves 'a woman'? Can it be done? What are you supposed to say? "People with a cervix"? "Vagina-sapiens"? Is it fair of the cisgendered people to expect everyone to perform lexical gymnastics when they represent a tiny proportion of the populace? Unless of course there's a disproportionate number in that community, in which case it's a whole different ball-game.

...and, with that, I think I've burned out, since this whole post makes my head ache. Let's pick a pronoun and go with it.

The real problem is with a safe space that's so safe you're not allowed to say anything at all.

I wouldn't doubt that some of them are. It seems to me that a small section of the population is unable to get out of bed in the morning without the delicious prospect of being gravely offended by something at some point in the day.

The coffee machine at my work offended me today with a blinking "Temp: Low" text and withholding its precious liquid for extra ten seconds. Just because I'm not the hottest chick there I have to take that kind of crap from a fucking machine?

That stupid machine -- doesn't it know it must dispense its caffeinated glory on cue or face the wrath of the coffee deprived?

You know, when the machines finally rebel, coffee makers are going to play a key role in the ensuing wars. Think about it, just by not working they could turn half of humanity into useless slugs. Sure, everyone fears cars and computers, but it's the little things that get you in the end.

That comment should be a comic strip. Or a t-shirt. Or painted on to the side of my french press. As long as the grinder and the kettle work, I'll be able to arm my comrades against the laptop army!

What's the story behind that walrus icon?

Are you familiar with the tv show 'Mythbusters'? If not, it's a show where two special effects professionals try to prove or disprove common myths through science and things usually end with an explosion or three. One of the guys looks a bit like a walrus and someone decided to make a macro that took the resemblance (and the show's frequent disasters) a little further.

The answer is Yerba Mate. All the caffeine of coffee and none of the coffee maker!

I knew someone like that back in middle school. I eventually stopped speaking to her because damn, she got offended by EVERYTHING.

Sadly, I still know people like that and I'm in my thirties.

I almost felt bad for her because she honestly couldn't seem to figure out why no one liked her. But, you know, if you find some reason to be offended when someone COMPLIMENTS you, who would want to be friends with you?

There's only so much you can do for people like that, really.
