"I LIKE RAPE, SO SUE ME!"
Over at moviebuffs, sundayschildx writes a little rant about Hitchcock's Frenzy, in particular the rather graphic rape scene. An addendum tells us that she has deleted replies disagreeing with her and disabled comments on the entry, along with calling said repliers "assholes."

Enter polyester_queen, who, in a separate entry, calls her out.

And fun was had by all.

ETA: Bing! Snacky's Law.

But rape is something that is terrifying for many women...something they fear every nite, afraid to sit on their porch, take the garbage out, or go for a walk. It is something very real and need not be depicted in such a filthy way.

How else should it be depicted if not filthy and terrifying? Sunshine and rainbows?

You have sex with people you love! Rapists just love people so much they can't help themselves!

I wish there were caps so I would know if anyone called her on that.

For real. I think being disturbing is kind of the point of rape scenes, if used well/appropriately. I'd be way more disturbed by a movie rape scene that was glamorized or treated as being no big deal.

The casualness of the violence in A Clockwork Orange is part of what makes it so disturbing. Although it never glamourised it, which this idiot seems to think they should do for rape scenes, lest they offend her.

Yeah, exactly. I meant "no big deal" as more from the attitude of the film makers. Clockwork Orange never approves of violence, as obviously the entire point is to be disturbing. As compared to, say, old James Bond or something, where women get slapped around and you're supposed to just take it in stride as nothing unusual.

Ah, good example. Sometimes I wonder why I like the old Bond films. :/
