[info]thexphial posts in [info]bad_service that she was charged $4 for sitting at a table in a tex-mex restaurant and not eating. Her family finds this unreasonable, because she had just had her tonsils out and couldn't have eaten the free chips, etc. Yes, the policy is on the menu, but the type is tiny. Also, she thinks they wouldn't waive the fee because she's fat. Cue the special.

It's definately because you're fat (Further down this thread, there is something about her having posted wankiness in the past)

Too bad I'm a member of c_suck_snark for quite a while, have read every entry, and have only been mentioned there once (and that was only because someone wondered whether my post counted as a transaction with a customer or not). And too bad I just plain don't fucking care enough about this person to endlessly scour three separate communities.

Is anyone else remembering that thing where a Starbucks person was all upset about people ordering something and adding lots of milk and stuff to it themselves?

I mean, I can see charging for the chips and stuff if somebody's actually eating nothing but free chips and they're by themselves (or with other people eating only chips), but come on.... What would they do if the group ordered an appetizer? Then is the non-ordering person deemed to have not ordered anything? What if two people split an entree?

Just seems like there's a better way to deal with it.

So What I Learned:

Ice Cream = Serious Business

Bad Service is the result of Being Fat. Tex-Mex waitresses never believe fat people.

And even if your waitress says nothing about your weight, make sure to leave the restaurant with a comment along the lines of "Fat girls like ice cream" with sixteen cones. That'll teach her.

We have similar problems at the resort I work at. There is a "resort fee" that covers things like wireless, long distance, business center, etc. I get more than one phone call a day telling me to extract that particular charge because they didn't use any of the services.

I can understand that it's frustrating, especially if you didn't use the services (or, in this case, eat the free food), but you have to look at it from the owner's standpoint - they try to make certain things available to thank you for your patronage, either for free (in the case of the restaurant) or for a small charge (our fee is 9.50 a night). There is no way of knowing who is and who isn't taking advantage of the free goodies - and the owners still have to have a way to pay for the chips/salsa/tortillas they "give away". And it's not really realistic to try to keep track of who does take advantage of the complimentary items, let alone who is doing so unfairly.

It sucks for the OP in my opinion, especially since she was already not feeling her best and the treatment she received sounds less than professional, but I have to say that I can understand both sides.
