We have similar problems at the resort I work at. There is a "resort fee" that covers things like wireless, long distance, business center, etc. I get more than one phone call a day telling me to extract that particular charge because they didn't use any of the services. I can understand that it's frustrating, especially if you didn't use the services (or, in this case, eat the free food), but you have to look at it from the owner's standpoint - they try to make certain things available to thank you for your patronage, either for free (in the case of the restaurant) or for a small charge (our fee is 9.50 a night). There is no way of knowing who is and who isn't taking advantage of the free goodies - and the owners still have to have a way to pay for the chips/salsa/tortillas they "give away". And it's not really realistic to try to keep track of who does take advantage of the complimentary items, let alone who is doing so unfairly. It sucks for the OP in my opinion, especially since she was already not feeling her best and the treatment she received sounds less than professional, but I have to say that I can understand both sides.
