ADA Wank, with a side of Mac Vs. PC and Liberal Vs. Conservative!
So, two California women are suing Apple for alleged accessibility violations in its SF retail store. The comments on the article are, needless to say, wanky, with some complaining about the liberal activist agenda, allegations that the women are just out to make a quick buck, and the occasional disabled person chiming in on both sides of the issue.

Also, WTF is a "standing wheelchair?"

Standing wheelchairs are cool! I went and googled after reading that part. Check it out. They have animated GIFs showing the action. *is geekishly impressed*

There's also the iBot (http://www.ibotnow.com/) from Dean Kamen of Segway fame.

I remember watching a Sixty Minutes segment on those way back, where they showed the sort of environmental testing that they put them through. They looked pretty sweet and tough. I think they've also been on the Colbert Report too, IIRC.

I have seen that up-close, and also seen Dean Kamen up-close. But yeah, those things are cool.

Oh, wow. Those are pretty badass from a technological point of view.

I've seen people use them for golfing. Nothing awesomer.

Oh, wow!

So if you have one of those you can actually use regular-height kitchen counters and cupboards and stuff and not have to completely remodel any kitchen you want to be able to use.

It's pretty awesome that someone came up with that and then made it work. :D

"Standing makes it easier to ... discipline kids."

I'm sorry, but that cracked me up.

Me too. But then when I saw the gif it made total sense. Just being able to stand over someone gives you so much authority. Of course you'd still have to be able to chase them... I wonder how fast you can go on that chair while standing?

Not to mention, in a contraption like that, you'd probably scare the kids a lot more than in a wheelchair. I mean, if we're talking about kids that weren't your own, because your own brats would grow accustomed to it pretty fast, I reckon.

Is it wrong that I made the Transformers noise during that gif? If so, I'm not sure I want to be right.

Tres Shiny!

As a little girl, I was terribly impressed when my mom took me to "Help" in a classroom full of kids with various special needs. One of the little girls, "Ruthie", had a Barbie wheelchair. I gushed about it, being at an age when all things Barbie was just so horribly cool. I'm not sure what happened to that kid, but I will never cease to be impressed by wheelchair design.
