ADA Wank, with a side of Mac Vs. PC and Liberal Vs. Conservative!
So, two California women are suing Apple for alleged accessibility violations in its SF retail store. The comments on the article are, needless to say, wanky, with some complaining about the liberal activist agenda, allegations that the women are just out to make a quick buck, and the occasional disabled person chiming in on both sides of the issue.

Also, WTF is a "standing wheelchair?"

I thought the thing about lawsuits is they have to have claimed to have personal reasons for suing... like, they can't sue someone just because they broke the law (accessibility), they have to have 'suffered' in some way?

also the MacDonald's lawsuit, if you read the details, wasn't really frivolous. The coffee was unsafely hot and the lady had to get like skin grafts and stuff. :(

MY THOUGHTS ON LAWSUITS LET ME TELL YOU THEM.

My suspicion is that the damages are only there to scare Apple into providing accessibility in the course of a settlement.

Yeah, people often cite the McDonald's lawsuit as an example of frivolity when all it really proves is that most people only have enough attention span to read the first sentence of a news story and nothing else.

Oh man that'll teach me to read before I start tl;dr-ing everywhere.

In short I agree with you :)

Heh, after that case I learned that "personal injury lawsuit has merit" is not nearly as attractive to news agencies as "lol look at these idiots." I know, it's hard to believe the media would manipulate us like that. :-)

This is why, when I took journalism classes, they always told us to put as much relevant info into the headline and first sentence as possible without making it overly long.

Of course, some "journalists" just go for the hype and not the story. After all, Mickey D's is an advertiser, and this lady isn't.

But on the other hand, there's a large amount of people who now bitch about every major store hot beverage now being a lukewarm beverage. But that might just be in the UK.

No, that's everywhere.

Lots of "why yes, a heated beverage in anything less than a damn good thermos is going to get cold after a two hour commute, pookie" in response to it, too. :P

I must admit it is sadly my Mum's complaint in most cafes, that the tea goes cold in about 2 minutes. I personally believe she scaulded all the heat sensors in her mouth dead many years ago because they feel hot to me.
