I. Um. Wot?

Strangest wank I've seen in a while. Clever troll, or really whacked-out person? You decide.

If you can't afford to buy a house that guarantees that your children don't have to share a room, don't have more children than you have bedrooms. No, srsly.

Srsly, if your children have to share a room, give them to someone more capable of taking care of them.

HEY NOW YOU ARE TWISTING MY WORDS!

Thank you for educating us, [info]teresina. o.O

Having recently been on college tours with my little sister (who I share a room with), this comment reminds me eerily of the kid who asked the tour guide how easily she could ditch her roommate...before she even get into the college.

Ouch. You're sort of fighting a losing battle if you get paired up with that one.

Shared a room with my sister for about five years, don't seem any worse for the wear

Aside from the constant urge to kill my sister, but I feel that towords all my siblings

Having spent most of my life sharing a room, I suspect it's all been a foul plot on the part of my mother to get her children out of the house and scatter us to the four winds as soon as legally possible. At times when I'm filling out university applications, I imagine her occasionally huddled in the corner of her spacious bedroom, cackling madly as she plots imminently to fill the empty space with the vast stores of alcohol we have driven her to. :-)

I'm gonna scream "troll", just because teresina seems to be provoking EVERYONE.

But anyway:

My youngest sister and I (9 years between us) shared a small room until I went away to college. I didn't mind- I could've shared with my other sister, but the baby was more fun and I didn't want to move out of my childhood room! If you can't share a room with anyone at all,at any time, then you have control/entitlement issues. Won't is different then can't, and if I have children, they sure as hell will know the difference.

However: 3 years of college I opted for a single room, which I loved, and then 4th year I roomed with a good friend, which rocked. I had very little faith in the random assignment thing; sometimes people get lucky, but I always had the feeling I'd end up with the psycho or drunk or slut.

But jeez, some of the "only child" freshmen just cracked me up:)

I guess SOMEONE had to share his bedroom with one or more of his siblings and didn't like it?

Seriously: WTF? As much as I understand the need to retreat and have a little time by oneself sometimes, I don't think that people who had to share their room with their siblings grow up disturbed or something like that.

But if you don't share a room how are you going to torture your siblings all night long? Then your parents might not want to bind and gag you in your sleep and the whole family dynamic is fucked up.

Having looked at her journal, her goal in life seems geared on winning the 'walking-talking poke in the eye' award. :/

As nutso has my twin brother made me, my parents could afford separate rooms for us, but we didn't get them until we were about 11. My guess is troll, that or she thinks siblings sharing rooms are open to some weird psycho-sexual thing and so deems room sharing evil. Also sounds like someone who doesn't get out of the house much [or around people, for that matter.]

/teel deer on sharing a double bed with TWO sisters until I was eight years old, and ten-person family sharing two bedrooms.

Dude, I didn't have my own room until after I was eighteen. And even now my little sister crawls into it every night and I have to roll her back off onto the floor.

I'm an only child. We had a tiny apartment. My parents were just friends. I slept in the same bed as my mother until I turned 13 and, for the record, my father slept on the sofa.

I never want to share anything ever again.

Hmm. On the one hand...I had an old boyfriend who was the youngest of five, and they grew up sharing the attic as their bedroom; the boys on one side, the girls on the other. And yeah, he had issues, but I think there was a hell of a lot more going on in that house than just the sleeping arrangments that caused it.

On the other hand -- does anyone else really, really want to make people listen to Bill Cosby's old piece "To Russell, My Brother, Whom I Slept With"?

Coincidentally, John Rosemond just had a column on this very matter. The gist of it? Studies show that sharing a room is actually *good* for siblings; it improves their social and conflict-resolution skills. Suppose this chick would argue with the study, though.

And, just because we're all sharing, I grew up with three siblings and didn't have a room to myself until I was in high school, and I've turned out . . . well, remarkably dysfunctional, but I'm sure having to share a room had nothing to do with that.
