The college I went to, although I didn't dorm because I already lived a 20min drive away and had a car, had a system where you filled out your specs and they'd put you with a roomie who was similar. My sister's uni was the same. That way a bookworm didn't end up with a drunken party slut, a single kid wouldn't be stuck with someone used to a family of tweleve, and art student wasn't living with an engineer, ect. Are Canadian schools just smarter or what's up?

	My school had a survey for that, but I don't think they actually read them. I wrote that I had early classes (the education department seems to like to put ALL of their classes before 10 am), but their paired me up with someone who partied until 3 am every night. (Reply to this)(Parent)

My first (small) college did that. When I transfered to a bigger University, I was told they didn't do that, and they didn't. There was an exception to this: freshman orientation. If you met someone you wanted to room with at orientation, they stapled your housing applications together as A Big Clue. But since I came in halfway through sophomore year, I had no such luck (ish).

Though I got SO lucky at the bigger U, with much nicer roommates, despite having NOTHING in common, we coexisted peacefully. Better than my roommate at my first college and we had filled out a compatability thingy.

My college in Utah does the same thing. Truthfully, my first roommate (social butterfly) was practically the opposite of me (I'm-reading-now-leave-me-alone) and she got phone calls from Hawaii in the middle of the night when my first class was at 8 in the morning, but we got along fine and the phone calls have helped me learn to sleep through even more noise. And my roommates since then have a lot in common with me. :)

	Nah. I don't agree with BYU's "honor code" and with some of their undergrad requirements, but they're a private university, they can do whatever the Hell they want, within reason. . . . besides, most of the people that I didn't get on with very well in high school ended up going to BYU, so now they're living forty minutes away and I never have to see them anymore. 0:) (Reply to this)(Parent)

	My university did this as well, except that people would lie on the forms (especially the "Do you smoke?" question, and the partying one) so it wasn't useful at all. (And where the hell was the "Are you going to be a drug addict who lays around the room 24-7 and invites skeevy dealers over all the time" question, because that's knowledge I could have used!) 	We filled out those surveys, too -- but it was all BS. Both my roommates were chain smokers, and I'd specifically listed "Non-smoker", as I'm allergic. The first was a dim as a box of rocks Southern belle; the second was a brain-fried addict, who left her drug paraphernalia hidden in plain sight. (Reply to this)(Parent)
