If I knew you were wanking, I'd have iced a cake
Over in [info]hp_britglish, schemingreader makes the mistake of asking what the stuff you spread on top of a cake is called. Hint: It ain't "frosting".

[info]oncelikeshari thinks that butter icing is evil and wrong and should be stopped, or that it doesn't exist. I'm not entirely sure.

Either way, I want cake. :(

Short, but sweet.

Either Pillsbury or Duncan Hines makes a "whipped buttercream" icing that comes in a little plastic can. Good stuff.

Not really a tin, I just couldn't think of the right word.

Lol, I just typed buttercream in to google and searched UK sites, I got a list of recipies and cosmetics. With readymade buttercream I found a site that sells it!

Oh, that stuff! Mmmmmmmmmmmm yes. :D

I have this delicious recipe for buttercream, though, if you like:

6 tablespoons softened butter
1 cup powdered sugar
1 tablespoon cocoa powder (actually, I usually double this, or so, but of course you can make the basic recipe and just add more to taste if you think it needs it)
1/2 teaspoon vanilla (I double this, too :3 )

Mush together and refrigerate. (It's fabulous when you've just made it, but trust me, it gets even better after it's been in the fridge a bit. At least I think so. I think it gets more buttery and chocolatey.)

Although, perusing the Duncan Hines site... I've never seen buttercream by them! I'll have to check next time I'm at the store.

Well, it's basically pure sugar and fat. And air, if you get the whipped kind.

I'm sorry, you'll just have to make your own.

When I was an undergrad, my roommates and I would each buy our own cans/pots/tubs/etc. of Betty Crocker Rainbow Chip frosting and eat it right out of the jar. Over the course of a few days, usually.

We were also known to make cake batter and never bake the cake, and cookie dough just for eating.

Yeah. It's amazing I didn't gain a million pounds (I actually lost about 35 my senior year due to a wonky schedule).
