And now for something completely different. (Else, why you shouldn't write wank reports at 1:47 am)
The theater of war: Slashdot a veritable breeding ground for spitting hate, pseudo-intellectual discussion, and whining about how generally, things suck.

Cue a post about the Washington State Linux User Group's little idea of a Nerd Auction, a certainly lovely idea, and apparently one that was come up with in the shower by the group leader: Ben.

All is fine and well, until anonymous shows up.

Apparently for somebody out there, the accusations of the anonymous, (and possibly the not so anonymous burntpenguin) hit a bit close to home, and are srs buisness.

And then for bonus points, the ex-fiancee of Ben the leader shows up.

No godwin's law invoked yet though. I'm pretty sure it's there somewhere.

so... auctioning geeky boys to sorority girls is going to increase female enrollment in engineering and computer sciences.... HOW?

::as the mom of a female engineering student at WSU, I had to snicker to find this on otf_wank. also, per my daughter, the sorority girls are the girliest girls that ever girled on the planet. I don't think one date, even with the Magic Penis Of Geeky Guy, is going to convert them to taking physics::

I once got a ride back to the west side with a stationwagon full of tri delts. It was the worst case of culture shock I ever incurred.

my daughter's first roommate was a sorority-girl-wannabe. think of all the WORST possible stereotypes? and that's the roommate. my poor daughter looked like a deer in the headlights.

fortunately, roommate moved out to another sorority pleger within a couple of weeks because said pledger "couldn't be in her room by herself". OKAY! It was for the best.

(Daughter now lives off campus with other geeks, including a female computer science grad student. like drawn to like!)

My daughter's current roommate is A++ fine; I only hope that she's also working on the whole peer pressure to make the kid be tidy (now watch the smaller offspring come by and comment).

We took the long way to Missoula to make both spawn be grateful they don't have to deal with the WSU campus, where "uphill both ways in the snow" is mere objective description.

Yes, we keep the room clean, but she's also a "you woke up and you're sick. Do you really want to go to class?" kind of influence occasionally.

WSU's campus is TERRIFYING. I love my ancient lake bed.
