Go off in the corner with your roast beef sandwich, while we build a better World.
Meanie cow-raping school district fires bold rebel for secretly teaching veganism in art class, instead of, um, art.

The former teacher, Dave Warwak, leaves no news article combox untouched in his quest, under the name inslidedotcom.

"teach them how Artists shape and guide morals in society With this knowledge, they can deal with the real world Use their art to create positive change Live longer Heal the earth I model what I teach I have been railroaded Posts removed You celebrate I appeal You pay Meat and Dairy laughs I cry"

Poetry.

And as his combox name might suggest, he has a website.

Yes, this is the man I want to teach MY children about art.

Edit: I turned off comment notification (ow, my inbox) so if anyone has any links to this guy wanking elsewhere (since he's wanked in two news articles at least, I'm sure there's more and will be more) please drop a comment in [info]joye's journal and I'll edit the post. Thanks.

Most of my horror stories of teachers teaching things other than their subjects comes from my brief stint in a parochial school (my family isn't terribly religious, but it was the only English-language school where we were living at the time), and I think we've heard enough of those in this thread.

I did, however, have a sixth-grade science teacher who ended up teaching penmanship more than science. We had to hand-write all our homework and lab reports and so on in cursive, and most of us had terrible handwriting by her standards, so she'd spend whole classes trying to teach us the right way to do it. I got into trouble with her several times because she couldn't read my handwriting (whereupon I always pointed out that if she would only let me type, we wouldn't have this problem, but apparently that wasn't the point).

And I think my personal Worst Teacher Ever award goes to the twenty-two-year-old high school English teacher with a pre-law degree who, in addition to knowing nothing about either English or teaching, was an immature asshole... but at least he tried to teach English.

(Also, I think it's somewhat ironic that I came across this post while procrastinating working on my take-home midterm for my Education class.)
