[info]glitteringlynx and [info]lilenth bring Bill Cosby wank and racism wank to [info]childfree. Break out all your bingo cards folks. It's a cornucopia of crazy.

*had thought they were By The Way covens or something*

No, British Traditional Wicca. Who are pretty picky about who they initiate because it's kinda like being adopted by a family. Glitteringlynx was very "they should take me just because I say so and if they're not, they're oppressing me!" about it.

Oh, I remember that! I didn't get involved with it at the time, but I recall thinking, really, would you WANT to be initiated into a coven that had misgivings about you? For ANY reason? It's a pretty intimate relationship.

*is in a coven, but not a Wiccan one*

Dang, I would have liked to have read that one. I don't suppose there's a link anywhere?

*knows for a fact that leading a coven is like nailing jello to a tree*

Also: By The Way Covens made me LOL.

I wish I could oblige, but I can't remember where I saw it. (Except that it was on LiveJournal. Gosh, I'm a helper.)

I don't know how my HPS and HP do it sometimes. I mean, we're all pretty reasonable well-adjusted people, but still.

Also: By The Way Covens made me LOL.

Me too!

Heh, I wouldn't trade my coveners for anything. They are all awesome. If only they would spend more time on the internets.

I think I'll just dig through glitterywhatever's LJ and see if I can find it. I've experienced the joy of unstable people in a coven. What fun.

I often threaten to change the name of our coven to ridiculous things (the last one was More Beer, I think), and I think By The Way will be my next one. LOL it will be awesome.

Also: I read that Bill Cosby thing and isn't it the same one from like five years ago? I guess Reduce, Reuse, Recycle applies to wank as well as Star Trek plots. :D

By The Way Covens..

Not to be confused with OMG Mormons, and of course, WTF Fundamentalists.

Neither are they to be confused with LOL Lutherans, AFK Catholics, BBQ Presbyterians, or Unitarians.

Oh, Wiccans. Never change. If we ever stopped arguing I'd think I was in the wrong religion.

Thanks for the link. :D I'm thinking of making a bingo card, if there's not one already.

I must confess, the idea of "Traditional Wicca" makes me giggle a bit. How far back does that tradition really go?

(Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

[info]squib
2007-10-27 12:53 pm UTC (link)
Pretty far, actually. *Refers you to Philip Heselton's very academic and well-researched book*

That, and "traditional" also refers to a practice that is passed intact from initiate to initiate, as opposed to covens that randomly change shit here and there and where their practices are extinguished when its members die or stop practicing.

Oh, at least to the early/mid-twentieth, when Gardner felt the need to justify his fetishes. (Aw, Gardner. Like Giles on crack, in a way.) Disputably further, but undisputably? 1954.

Which makes it only a few decades less traditional than things like the nuclear family. So I feel pretty okay about it.

I thought it was "Witchcraft". Like, pre- or at least extra-Gardnerian. :B
