This is how lit majors get back at the world to compensate for our bitterness in the face of knowing that we're working on an utterly useless degree.

Well, think of it this way. I'm still working on my two year degree...seven years later. Though, it was the loveliness of F_W that convinced I needed a degree with options, so forget Lit. Of course, I'm in history, so one half dozen or the other.
