PostcardX is the GoogleGroup discussion list for PostcardX, an editable site for sharing addresses and receiving random postcards. Basically, anyone can put up a profile, that anyone can edit. This occasionally leads to huge freaking out because trolls come along and delete or edit people's profiles, and people have to *gasp* re-submit their address.

The latest bunch of trolling has come, deleting tons of addresses and people are once again getting all worked up. Cries for the owner of the site to change it (he won't), for dealing with the trolls by proudly declaring how many times YOUR profile has been deleted, and calls for people to just post their addresses on the list so that we can all still exchange postcards are all happening, clogging up various in boxes with ... I dunno, lots of email over the past few days from a list that usually gets me about three emails a month.

Which means, of course, people freak out even more.

Whisper Wind Girl sez:

okay, so I am taking it upon myself to delete all of the garbage spam
from pcx. the idiot who came up with this "brilliant" plan and the
subsequent idiots who followed suit don't seem to realize that
spamming random messages and their own information 500 times is JUST
AS BAD AS THE MASS ALTERINGS/DELETIONS. what is wrong with you? do you
not use your brain? did you not stop to think for ONE SECOND that the
troll would just leave your garbage up, because it's basically another
version of what he/she is doing? pcx is for leaving real addresses and
having people respond to you and sending things out. a pcx filled up
with "lol im going to spam as much as i can lol" 50 times by 10 people
every 20 minutes is just as bad as that many profiles with their info
replaced with "poo and pee". you're not irritating or detering the
delete person at all. you're helping him/her you fucking moron.

and if you tell me to come up with a better idea like you did the
other "mysterious person" who wrote in your profiles, i'll punch you.
seriously, the fact that someone cannot think of a better idea does
not validate your plan. This is an idea a fucking 2 year old wouldn't
come up with because they are smart enough to realize what's wrong
with it and why it won't work. you people say the delete cretin has no
life, what about you guys? i am definitely leaving to another place,
hopefully one where i won't have to receive a postcard from someone
who is probably too stupid to write the letter sequence in the address
area correctly. if pcx is left open, then no one is safe as long as he/
she is still around. and it especially isn't if you geniuses come up
with another "plan" like this. congratulations you fucking dumbasses.
the troll turned YOU all into trolls. you should be proud of yourself.

Which leads to people telling her to calm down, to which her response is:

who's yelling? i'm using curse words. mind your own business if you
have nothing productive to say other than "shh... it's okay."

Some funny responses in there, a bit of trying to come up with a more clever plan, then Whisper Wind Girl rolls her eyes at all of us to say:

okay, so i can rant, --just like everybody else--, just as long as i
come up with a plan. i get it now.

okay then, how about we all become super hackers and shield the site
with a firewall channeled from a server in pakistan. i think that idea
is just as good.

now can i vent?

It goes on for a bit, people posting back and forth, Whisper Wind Girl attempting to throw fits like a two year old, and various attempts by other people to calm her down, when finally, She's banned.

I was kinda disappointed. It was the most entertaining thing this week.

All this screaming, shouting, and random references to The Matrix over postcards.
