The stereotypes of "Germanic barbarian hordes," in general, persist in popular culture, and sometimes influence academic works (I recall one conference paper which tried to describe Gothic kinship in terms of medieval German marriage customs, which contradicts such histories refer to Gothic marriages and dynastic politics - the Chernyakhov Goths had a Germanic language but a distinct culture overall) OH SHIT, BETTER CALL THE PEDANTRY POLICE. LOL, way to give classicists a bad name. I bet he's friends with the guy who translates Catullus so it sounds like the work of a stuffy 19th century sonneteer. God, I hate that guy.
