SixApart/Livejournal have the best idea ever!
So, uh, Livejournal.

Go figure.

Pull up a chair. Get out a beer. Take one sip for:

- each invocation of Big Brother (or any other 1984 reference)
- each mention of censorship
- each mention of the First Amendment
- each reiteration of "It's the PARENTS' job!"
- each person flagging the announcement post as offensive
- each person announcing that LJ/6A will no longer see a penny of theirs

Take one gulp for:

- each Godwin's
- each comparison of this new system to rape
- each assertion that the only people complaining are the child molestors who want free porn

And before you know it, you'll be just drunk enough not to care any more.

[eta] The girl who brought you LJ T-shirt burning now brings you... Honestly, I'm not sure what she's trying to do here.

I, for one, wholeheartedly support this venture! After all, LiveJournal users are quite capable of determining what's inappropriate for children and what isn't, and it's not as if kids lie about their age.

And there is just NO WAY someone will take advantage of this new system and flag someone else's journal because they said something they don't quite agree with :D

Of course they will. And then it'll get reviewed by LJ Abuse. And if they keep doing it to non-explicit posts, their flags will get ignored by the system. :D

LJ abuse totally carefully reviews all complaints! Really! They do! They're really really careful!

I think that's more of a plausible deniability thing. If a kid lies about their age in order to get into "adult" areas, then you have a paper trail. Its harder for parents to claim "My poor innocent baby didn't mean to be looking at dirty, dirty, smut! She is innocent as the driven snow!", because then livejournal can come back with "Yeah, well unless Snow White here forgot what year she was born in, she lied about her age."

Oh I know; it's just kind of amusing to me how LJ keeps instituting these ideas to protect the childrun that are destined for lots of abuse and misuse.
