SixApart/Livejournal have the best idea ever!
So, uh, Livejournal.

Go figure.

Pull up a chair. Get out a beer. Take one sip for:

- each invocation of Big Brother (or any other 1984 reference)
- each mention of censorship
- each mention of the First Amendment
- each reiteration of "It's the PARENTS' job!"
- each person flagging the announcement post as offensive
- each person announcing that LJ/6A will no longer see a penny of theirs

Take one gulp for:

- each Godwin's
- each comparison of this new system to rape
- each assertion that the only people complaining are the child molestors who want free porn

And before you know it, you'll be just drunk enough not to care any more.

[eta] The girl who brought you LJ T-shirt burning now brings you... Honestly, I'm not sure what she's trying to do here.

weird. I see those "flag as inappropriate" or "report" options all over the internet, but the moment LJ decides to use that option as well, it's a huge fucking wobbly. I would think that they would have some kind of built in allowance for spite-flagging.

This is a no-win situation for LJ. They're damned if they do go forward with this feature, and they're damned if they don't.

I would think that they would have some kind of built in allowance for spite-flagging.

You can only use 5 flags a day, you can't flag until your journal is a month old, and for the "Adult Content" and "Explicit Content" flags, nothing happens until the entry/journal receives multiple flags (no number was given that I saw). And if someone gives a lot of false/ridiculous flags, their flags are then ignored from then on.

So they *tried* to account for spite-flagging...

which then takes all the wind out of the wankers' sails. Thus, I'm all for this option. It seems to me that DeviantART's "report" feature is stricter than this LJ option, and I don't see many people wanking about DA's reporting system. (One of the few things people DON'T complain about at DA, or at least as far as I can tell. That place can be quite the clusterfuck of idiots and phail!)

I think, though, that's there's a greater grey area when it comes to adult content in writing than in images.

I don't know why, but for some reason I thought your icon was of Dr Zoidburg.
