SixApart/Livejournal have the best idea ever!
So, uh, Livejournal.

Go figure.

Pull up a chair. Get out a beer. Take one sip for:

- each invocation of Big Brother (or any other 1984 reference)
- each mention of censorship
- each mention of the First Amendment
- each reiteration of "It's the PARENTS' job!"
- each person flagging the announcement post as offensive
- each person announcing that LJ/6A will no longer see a penny of theirs

Take one gulp for:

- each Godwin's
- each comparison of this new system to rape
- each assertion that the only people complaining are the child molestors who want free porn

And before you know it, you'll be just drunk enough not to care any more.

[eta] The girl who brought you LJ T-shirt burning now brings you... Honestly, I'm not sure what she's trying to do here.

Eh. If you say so.

My point was that if it's the same stuff as airs on network tv, gets painted on giant billboards by the highway, is shown on magazine covers at the local 7-11, and can be casually overheard on line at the supermarket, the objectionable nature of the content is not a function of the internet. Stuff that's much worse than that does generally require at least some effort to come across.

Do you live in the US? Because nudity and explicit language doesn't air on network TV in the US, nor does it appear on giant billboards, or on magazine covers. Casually overheard language, sure, that's true.

But parents often object to that and I really don't think that any of that requires much effort to come across. I get spam email at work that features nudity and language like "giant juicy cocks!"

My work has a very poor spam filter.

But seriously, all I need to do is open my email and there it is. I am not sure where the hard work required to find this stuff is.

I also use the internet at work to search for customers for things like old children's movies. Often porn sites come up on the very first page. Now, I don't consider that "hard" or "have to be looking for it specifically" but I can see how you might.

If what you think parents object is hot explicit donkey sex, then sure, you're right, that's a little bit of effort to find it. I guess. I don't know, I've never tried looking for hot explicit donkey sex - PLEASE NO ONE TELL ME HOW EASY IT IS TO FIND OR PROVIDE ME WITH LINKS!
