Entry tags:defensiveness ahoy, food, otf can ruin anything, the mods hate otf so much, whipping cream is hard!

Cool Whip: It's a Floorwax and a Dessert Topping!
Over in the hip_domestics community, [info]petrel asks the age old question, "Cool Whip is the same as whipped cream, right?" followed closely by "How do you make whipped cream anyway?" This draws some slight mumbling from the crowd on the evils of Cool Whip, nothing spectacular, really.

Anyhoo, domestic snark picks it up and upsets a friend of the original poster, [info]coflower, who wouldn't have been upset if everyone knew what an IQ smart person [petrel] is.

Once again, short but sweet. (I should really stop looking at food comms when I'm hungry.)

I want to try this whip-it-until-it's-butter thing. Mmmmm, light, fluffy butter. With Cool Whip on top.

My daughter's preschool class put cream in little baby food jars and shook it until they got butter. When they went to a farm in kindergarten and they showed them the butter churn the kids were all, 'yeah, we knew that.'

They were thrilled to find out there were pink pumpkins though.

I did the same thing in kindergarten! Well, kind of. It was this fake old-timesy little village we went to. We punched foil-things (I made a heart!) and made butter that we got to eat on crackers and it was DELICIOUS TO THE MAX. I've always wanted to do it again, but I'm lazy and I've done such stupid cooking things as making garlic bread without garlic. Also, poor.

I've done that. And it turned out really good too, tho hubby insisted I add some salt to it. (he's weird) It took a surprisingly long time tho /whinging.

(my arms were tired from all the shaking cuz we didn't have a mixer at the time or I'd have used that. I just wanted to see if it could be done cuz I missed out on all that fun stuff as a kid. Hubby was amazed it worked cuz I can't cook to save my life...)

It doesn't quite work that way. You get butter clumps sitting in lowfat milk, basically.

I think it depends on what kind of cream you use? I didn't have that when I did it....mine turned out surprisingly well, after an amazingly looooooong time. *sheepish*
