$.02, not .02$\

If I had a dollar for every time I saw someone put the dollar sign after the amount, I'd've paid off my student loan years ago. College students who live in countries that use dollars who don't know where to put the $ make me wonder how they got passing grades in math.

Well, it does come second in French, so...

OooOOOoops, I didn't know that. That'd explain it there. I see it so often by My Fellow Americans that I get this reflexive *twitch* going.

Heh, not to worry. Frankly I consider this to be one of those cases where French (or Canadian French, in any case, as I've not a clue how it's done in the rest of the French-speaking world...) is much more sensible than English, but that doesn't make it any less wrong when it's coming from your average anglophone.

The dollar sign after the cost is correct in Québec, I had to learn that when I switched from Ontario to Québec education (largely math, which was awesome).

*gives myself another "The World Is Not America, Dumbass" post-it note to go with the one I gave myself in my reply to [info]silber.* I haz 2 stiky noats!

I didn't know that. Now that I think of it, I wonder if it's common usage among Louisiana Francophones. The owner of one of my old places of employment was a Cajun and he spoke only French at home growing up, he always put 5$ while my brain was trying to move the $ to the other side.
