Would you please look at what they sell?!
In vintage_ads, the LJ community where people post --wait for it!-- vintage ads, [info]amadoj0nes posts a Camel advertising in an entry titled "Behold, a blatantly vaginophallic product mascot!" complete with the following sentence(s).

They sell a product that causes cancer.
They sell a product that causes cancer.
They sell a product that causes cancer.
They sell..a product... that causes.. cancer.
They sell a motherf*#@ing product that causes CANCER.


Mostly, folks' replies tend to be from the CRY MOAR variety, to which dear [info]amadoj0nes answers by repeating what seems to be his signature:

They sell a product that causes cancer.

They sell.. A product... That causes...Cancer.

Help me out here. Any generation younger than mine takes about 5-6 repetitions in order for obvious things to sink in.

And people keep saying CRY MOAR.

I wish this guy'd shut up. It's annoying enough that people light up right in front of the big NO SMOKING signs at the bus stops when there're a bunch of other people waiting there without obnoxious idiots complaining in a way that makes said smokers want to smoke more to annoy them.

What scares me is that I've known several people who hated cigarette smoking with a passion, and stated that if they could they would make it illegal... and at the same time supported the legalization of medical marijuana, since the government shouldn't be able to force people who wanted to purchase it from doing so.

Oy.

I'm not seeing the problem here, minus the part about actually making it illegal and even from there I can see how they've reconciled their own logic. What's the deal?

I feel like I ought to take offense to the fact that he's old and bitter about people like me who are, what, a year or so younger? But, then, I live in Virginia and go to school across the street from the Phillip Morris Research Center and hold my breath as I walk through the front doors to avoid the Nursing Student Tobacco Appreciation Society, so...*shrug*
