Anonymous VS Scientology Part 2
A small update.

News of Anonymous' attempts to expel Scientology from the internets and disseminate the batshit truth about them is picking up steam in mainstream-ish media and pwning Digg (see the "Top in All Topics" section.)

A spokesperson for the Co$ recently made the first stroke in what we hope will become an extended fapping session by saying that the "church" does not give a damn. “We have our books. We have our people. And we can speak,” she said.

Thems fightin' words, lady!

ETA: Bonus fapping from this guy. Yeah. Good luck with that, buddy.

ETA2: Thanks to [info]solle for the following updates.

Get your hot, sweaty Scientology action here. You in the mood for some OT VIII baby? No? How about some CIA-related batshit instead? If that doesn't tickle your fancy, watch the full Tom Cruise video. He's an American heartthrob! Or are your tastes more inclined towards full on government penetration? Join in the fun if there's an orgy taking place in a city near you! Keep it legal but lulzy, folks! Warren Ellis and Stephen Colbert approve this message!

ETA3: More specific updates thanks again to [info]solle
Scientology gets Bel-Aired. Proof that L. Ron was a fucktard. Scientology ruins lives. Here is one of many stories.

I've seen Wil Smith's name mentioned by Anonymous, but haven't seen any mention of John Travolta.

Is Anonymous only anti-Cruise in its desire to stop Co$, or will they be taking it to other media celebrities?

I think it's anti-Cruise partly because of how batshit he's been in public with the Co$ thing, and also because his is the video that got leaked.

Also, I always forget about John Travolta. He's always so nice when he's here shooting his films. :(

I think one of the things might be that Tom Cruise is just so much made of crazy. And the worst thing (and, really, only bad thing) I've ever heard about John Travolta re: his Scientology is that his son is autistic and he refuses to admit it because of Scientology's views on the subject. Completely different levels of offensiveness which call for completely different levels of response? I dunno.

IIRC, the Co$ looks at Cruise as some sort of latter day Messiah or something. He's way, way up there in the chain of command for sure.

Bonus Plus Good: Cruise is an arrogant asshat on a Power Trip. That's enough to make ordinary people want to slap him silly. Add the Co$ and bizarre behavior? Well, it doesn't take much to get the various /b/'s whipped into an /i/nvading frenzy anyway, does it?

Callum Keith Rennie should play David Miscavige if a movie is made on the church. That's who I keeping thinking of as I watch the OT summit.

However, I don't think that would ever happen with the CoS so deeply entrenched in the movie industry.

I'm surprised more people aren't talking about the guy who thinks he can make anon "stand down" just by yelling at them, or that he can get youtube to rise against them somehow. I don't think he realizes how much anon really is out there.

Though, I'm very curious to see how this pans out with broader consequences. The "church" is used to suing people to silence critics. Will they try to deliver a lawsuit against 4chan or ED's owners/server maintainers? Despite legal precedent (in a lawsuit against match.com) that says large networking sites cannot be held responsible for the behavior of their users? It's not like legal precedent has ever stopped crazies or the RIAA before.

A lot of people in charge of the country are terrified of the internet, and if this were to get large enough... well, people in charge tend to be prone to lashing out against that which they're afraid of. How to do fight a diffuse group of faceless individuals connected only through their activity online with traditional law enforcement technique? If anon doesn't get bored and drop it within a week to shinier things, it'll be an interesting display of the power of what a 'grassroots' effort on the internet can do to a large, established, 'real world' entity. And that's enough to leave a good amount of lawmakers shaking in their boots in and of itself.

I just talked to my family about this over Sunday lunch. My great-grandma actually knew Ron L. Hubbard before he founded the Co$, and according to family lore he apparently did it because he wasn't earning enough as a science fiction author. Great-Grandma passed on a couple of years ago, but I'm sure she would have been thrilled to see that hack's "religion" take it in the rear.

Gawker has someting new out. This time it's a sales pitch in the form of an email from King of Queens actress Leah Remini. She tries to get people to start the courses needed to become an OT (Operating Thetan).

You're waiting because of money? Or for your wife to do it first or for you to strike it rich? It will not happen without your decision to go up the levels. That is the truth. You owe it to yourself, your family, and to mankind to move and move NOW.

http://gawker.com/5002592/leah-reminis-crazy-scientology-email

They're not sure if it is real, but if it is, it's scary. "You owe it to mankind to give us your money NOW."

Wank over Anonymous vs. Scientology has spilled over to Daily Kos. Someone who is normally clueful posted a conspiracy theory that Anonymous is being used by the government to "get" Scientology over the Tom Cruise movie "Valkyrie" which is about the failed plot to assassinate Hitler (no, Godwin's Law doesn't apply). Srsly. She ends the diary with "First they came for the Scientologists, and I didn't complain because I wasn't a Scientologist..."

By the third comment, other Kossacks try to feed her clues about Anonymous. Then they feed her clues about Scientology. Her responses start with La, la, la, I can't hear you, and escalate from there. She then repeats her conspiracy theory in condensed form. She then calls 'troll" on the people disagreeing with her. Finally, the Kossacks give up on trying to persuade her and commence mocking. The resident trollhunter finds her picture and posts it as a macro. After that, a pie fight ensues and comments get hidden from n00bs and non-members, although this exchange managed to survive. Lovely.

I admit I wasn't going to pay much attention to this until I was walking to catch the bus after work the other day and realized, suddenly, that there was a Scientology shelter smack dab in the middle of the south side where I worked. I actually paused, blinked, giggled, and then for no reason at all, wanted to take a picture for posterity.

Gah...sometimes, link hopping leads you to all sorts of stuff. Like this:

From the interview tapes of Lawrence Wollersheim interviewing Jesse Prince who was 2nd in command of Scientology. [Main page.] (This was on tape 3, page 4 and 5.)

J: "Tom Cruise, he actually became psychotic during auditing. Cruise was on OT III and Scientology had to bring him back to the base because he looked so bad." This is what I know about Tom Cruise. He was brought into Scientology and went into great detail about all the trappings of yesterday. This is what I recall about this thing that you mention. He got onto OT III and he had black circles under his eyes. He was like pretty screwed up, pretty screwed up. I mean nothing was making sense. He had these sound people on the set of Days of Thunder, feeding his ego, telling him how horrible everybody else was. He was having difficulty with some of the movie people. Rob Howard ended up coming out to the Int [?] base. He wasn't impressed at all. He came once and never came back again that I know of. It was very strange, at this time that Tom Cruise was screwing around with Scientology. After OT III he just got that pasty skin and that foolish look. He didn't want to come back, he didn't want to screw around with any more. He just wanted Scientology to be away from him. He wanted to do no more auditing, just nothing with any of that stuff, just go back to Hollywood and his home.
L: He wanted to leave Scientology?
J: Of course they really, oh, a horrible thing, someone gave you a wrong command or something. Something gets exploded at the base because he's nuts now. Of course they made him nuts. He was taken off any kind of real heavy auditing, and just let's have some fruit, let's get exercise, come to the exercise room, let's play basket ball, let's do this. I was leaving as that was going on, this is '92. This is when I'm leaving, I'm leaving and this is going on.
L: Do you know of any celebrities that have gone psychotic with Scientology auditing, who just went nuts?
J: John Travolta.
L: Do you know any more about that?
J: Well, it's happened several times.
L: He's gone psychotic several times during Scientology auditing?
J: Yes, just a fit, throwing a fit, wanting nothing else to do with Scientology, and then they'd go and get him again. Two times that I know of, once this was when that movie Saturday Night Fever came out, and he was good friends with Spanky Taylor. Suddenly she disappeared pregnant with her child, now in RPF crying all the time. That was a person that he wanted to have contact with in relationship in Scientology. They tricked him and told him "If you bring the movie so that all the base orgs can see it, and make an appearance, specifically for the RPF, that they will let him see Spanky. Of course he did all of that and they didn't let him see Spanky. He just went nuts, he threw a damn fit. He's actually the one, Spanky's secretary is the one that actually saved Spanky from Scientology. There was a period of time where John wanted nothing to do with Scientology, he was happy that Spanky was safe. But they still had control of Spanky to use her to keep him going. That was one time. Another time he was having a relationship with another homosexual man and said he was going to marry the man. Oh my God -
