Exactly. CallipygosConsort got a Savannah cat with his ex -- it was her idea, because her college roommate was a breeder -- and when they broke up his ex got custody. He's said that someday he'll want to get another cat, and has said he definitely wants another Savannah. I was surprised for 2.3 seconds that he wouldn't want a shelter cat, but then I realized that well, he'd fallen totally in love with the breed, and it was his business. (Besides, the Savannah they'd gotten is gorgeous -- he's the kitten at the very bottom left corner of this page.)

Some people just have particular preferences in one thing or another, it doesn't make them spoiled or anything.

I'd gotten the icon from someone else, I forget who -- personally, I don't mind, just giving the heads-up.

Savannahs can be very smart, but can sometimes be a little leery of strangers (CallipygosConsort's gotten him back for a few visits, and he's always hissed at me when he sees me; although, to be fair, that may not be a breed thing, but may be more a feline version of the little kid meeting Dad's new girlfriend and saying "You're not my mommy.")

Our savannah is a little on the skittish side, but IMO it all really depends on how close your particular savannah is to the original serval and individual temperament.

Both savannahs and bengals are gorgeous, athletic, and so smart it's scary. And if you're in the right place at the right time, you can still get a rescue cat. Alot of people will get a savannah/bengal, expecting them to be a pretty decoration that you have to feed from time to time, not realizing that they need attention and stimulus, and when the cat acts out they get rid of the poor thing. Sad, but that's how we ended up getting both of our bengals. Our savannah was the only one we actually got from the breeder.

	Eeee, Ocicats!! They're gorgeous. They're definitely on the list of breeds I might buy if I ever bought a cat (we've had six in my lifetime and they've all been strays or shelter cats, but one of them is a clear Ragdoll mix, and the tabby we used to have was probably part Siamese. 	I have a friend with a half-Siamese cat. She (the cat, not my friend) ran across a hotplate while it was on. TWICE. The same cat also doesn't use the catflap, instead preferring to squeeze out of a window, no matter how far the window isn't open or how she'll have to jump down seven feet from an awkward position. 	I used to have a neighbor who had a Siamese (apple-head, which are less inbred, but still) that she had rescued from an alleyway in Cairo. Her name was skittles, and she liked to roll around in the gutter. Even when cars were coming (luckily we did not get a lot of cars on that street and then usually went slowly, as it was a blind curve). (Reply to this)(Parent)

Here's where I'm going to come across like a wanking ass, but I can't help myself. I think Savannahs are some of the most beautiful cats in the world, but in some ways, I wish they were never invented.

Not because they aren't awesome, they are, but because everyone around here who owns one is a total yuppie, who can't *stand* the idea of having something that isn't expensive, that they can't show off and say, "Yes, this is my multi-thousand dollar pet, very rare you know."

Your friend sounds like he's got the right idea and loves the breed whether it's a million dollars or six cents, which is terrific, but oh, I get tired of people who just can't get a pet, purely for the sake of the animal itself, but must get some exotic creature, mostly for the bragging rights.

Er, sorry. Again, I hope this doesn't come across like I'm slamming your friend, he sounds like one of the few people who should have a Savannah cat.

No, I hear you, and I'd have thought the same thing if he had a different attitude about it. But fortunately his attitude about Savannahs wasn't about "oh, must have a purebred because they are speshul and unique", it's about, "awwww, Rupert was just such a great cat!"

Kind of like how my family's dog when I was a kid was arguably one of those poodle-mixed-breed designer things that are so big now (I think they call them "Spoodles" now, but the cocker spaniel/poodle mixes used to be "cockapoos" and poeple've been doing that for a while), and honestly, our dog was awesome. So I get just as sick of hearing of labradoodles and goldendoodles and whatever-oodles as the next person, but....they all look a little like K.C., so whenever I see a picture of them, a part of me does go "....awwwwww!"

	Oh, yes...Savannahs are gorgeous. Bengal cats are also beautiful and have such wonderful personalities. A friend of mine has two, and they are the sweetest boys. And I understand about falling in love with a breed. For me, it's Maine Coons. I have a couple right now, and the fur getting everywhere is still worth it, IMO. (Reply to this)(Parent)
