Perfume can kill
In fatshionista, a community devoted to fat-positive fashion, rosewelsh makes a post (which was accidentally okayed by a mod) asking people to be careful with perfume and other scents because of those like her that are "deathly allergic" to scent.

Reactions are mixed - some people agree with her, some people think that she's overreacting, and quite a few question what it has to do with fat fashion. It quickly devolves into a discussion about whether or not multiple chemical sensitivity really exists, whether or not the community is a "safe space", and whether or not the responders are bitches.

There are also comments comparing perfume to second hand smoke and contrasting the community reaction to her post to one that an openly gay person would receive if they dared reveal themselves.

It ends(?) with a flounce.

Bonus points for grammar nazisnitpickers who oppress the learning disabled.

ETA: Bahleeted! My thanks to athy and julian_black for the save.

ETAA: Modhammer falls.

OT, but, *SQUEAL* Garcia icon! *hugs*

Now, on topic: I love perfume. I have friends who are allergic. I do my very best not to let me scent-craze get the better of me, because as an asthmatic and the daughter of one, I know how scary it is to not be able to breathe suddenly.

God, this is like a smorgasbord of wank. I could get wasted off this drinking game.

From the perfume-sensitive among us, I say thanks. Most perfumes give me a headache very fast.

I wish my workplace would start that "detected from arm's length away" ban. It is sorely needed here.

My rules of thumb: If I simply feel the absolute need to wear a scent, I apply at 15 minutes before I leave, two dabs maximum and, if it's a spray, I spritz a mist of it in the air and walk through it a couple times. That way, only I can smell it.

That ban should be federal law.

I think that's the best way to do it.

*joins in with the thanks, and gives boobies as well*

I used to work with someone who layered so much on I could -taste- it. All along the back of my throat. And I have really bad asthma.

At least one attack was all it took to keep management from putting us together.

Ewwww! TI have a coworker who leaves a trail of scent as she walks down the hall. You can always tell if she was in that location before you.
